5 Reasons Why You Should Stop Judging Others

[Guest Post]

We’re all guilty of judging people. Hopefully, though, as people expand their tolerance and respect towards people who are different then themselves, we will judge less and love more. There are lots of reasons to not judge people but below are my top five reasons why we should be less judgmental and more accepting:

EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN STORY

Everyone has their own story and history that has made them the person they are today. We cannot possibly form an educated opinion of someone when we really don’t know their journey. We do not know their struggles, the choices they have had to make, the experiences that have formed the person standing before you today. A personal example: I have MS. I am one of the lucky ones in that I have not experienced severe disabilities so to anyone looking at me, they wouldn’t be able to tell what exactly are my struggles as a result of my disease. However, I do experience extreme fatigue and weakness in extreme heat or if I have to be on my feet for an extended period of time. To compensate for that I do park in handicap parking zones and use a cane, walker or wheelchair depending on the situation I’m in. People could judge and question why I’m using these aids but without knowing my story, they can’t know my struggles.

BASIC HUMAN DECENCY

There is such a thing as basic human decency. Instead of pointing fingers and talking negatively about our fellow mankind, we should be respectful towards one another. It may be easier to be nasty but it’s better to be kind to everyone regardless of what they look like, where they come from, what they do or who they love. It is better to learn and understand each other.

NO-ONE IS PERFECT

No one is perfect. We have all made mistakes, done things we shouldn’t have done, said things that shouldn’t have been said. Do you want to be judged based on your misdeeds or on who you are today? Do not judge the imperfect when you are less than perfect yourself.

LOVE AND COMPASSION

The world needs more love and compassion. We all need help, understanding and respect. If this was the way with man, I think the world would be a more peaceful place to live in.

WE ARE ALL UNIQUE & BEAUTIFUL

We are all unique and beautiful. The world is a colourful and exciting place to be a part of because we are all so different. Take a minute to appreciate the differences of those around you. Think of those differences as opportunities for growth within yourself. If we were all the same how boring that would be!

So next time you feel the urge to judge, hold back and show love, respect, compassion and kindness instead. Being judgmental only reflects badly on you and shows the world your flaws. Be Pretty, Plus and Proud and love thy neighbor as we were told to do thousands of years ago.

Do you have any thoughts on this topic? Have you ever felt judged by someone who doesn’t know you? How did it make you feel?

  1. There can be a lot of jealousy in the blogging community. Because some get more opportunities than others. But it really is about doing what u have to do to make the opportunity happen. Things don’t just fall on your lap. Make the initial contact, don’t wait to be contacted. Put the effort in. If you don’t try then you will not know.

I don’t know but I do feel people are some where losing human values and morals. They need to be kind towards each other. As you have said love, compassion and respect is very much required in today’s world. Great post 😊😊

  3. Sometimes first impression stay for awhile but it doesn’t come to the point where it ended to be judgmental. My impression of people fade right away as soon as I’m at home. It doesn’t sit in my mind long. I don’t care who am I befriending. I just want company to talk about anything. Thanks for the post. It’s very interesting !

  4. 5 important points here!

I was in the states, solo recently and checked into an Airbnb which was also home to a group of men.
When I entered I was greeted by the housemates. However, the house was very messy and a bit worse for ware.

I was shown to my room in the basement which didn’t have any locks or anything.

I was a little sceptical about staying and asked some friends what to do who all told me to leave!

I decided to stay with the men, which I’m so glad I did.
They cooked me a lovely meal and all told their stories and and made me feel very welcome.

In fact, this was one of my favourite memories from this trip, which I would’ve missed if I had left due to judgement!
