The Art of Volunteering: Giving Back as a Path to Community Belonging

Volunteering is such a rewarding act of kindness any human can do. You’re choosing to use your own free time to help others, with no real financial gain on your side. In this post I share why giving back to your community through volunteer work is important.

BUILDING CONNECTIONS

Becoming a volunteer is such a great way for you to build connections with people that may not cross your path usually. You all have the same goal in volunteering and thats helping others that need it. That alone is a great reason to share a connection with somebody else. You can help and become a volunteer no matter what your background is. Whether you’re a nurse, a grocery worker or if you’re helping somebody from your community find a mortgage for investors.

IMPROVING YOUR SKILL SET

Volunteering is such a great way to increase your skills. Taking part in something you normally wouldn’t can help you increase your skill set. Whether thats learning more people/customer service skills, or just wanting to get better at talking to others. Volunteering gives so many great opportunities where you wouldn’t usually get the chance.

CREATING A SENSE OF PURPOSE

Some people in their lives feel as though they have no purpose or they’ve lost their purpose. volunteering can bring that out in people again. Knowing that there are people that rely on them showing up can really help to give somebody a sense of purpose for their lives. Whether it’s an educational purpose, environmental, disaster relief volunteering, whatever it is, it can create a sense of accomplishment.

CONCLUSION

Volunteering is such a powerful and beautiful thing you can do for yourself and for your community. The connections you make, the skills you learn can really provide you a sense of belonging. Anybody can do it, thats the beauty of it.

  1. Brilliant and excellent advice Olivia. I really appreciate the genuine words you posted here and I agree that volunteering gives one a sense of purpose👏💯

Also, the way I see it, any person can volunteer and it does not have to involve money. Yes, we all want to get paid for the work but sometimes, helping people without getting anything back is the beauty of volunteering. It creates a deeper solid connection with people. People will always remember the man or woman who was merciful and helped without getting money as payment for the work.

Moreover, I remember back in 2020, COVID-19 hit the world hard and we had to find something to do at home. Now that it is 2024, we can still volunteer by all means and this builds skills such as social skills, problem solving and time management skills. These skills will help in the future when big corporations seek to hire your services and hire you based on your skills and experience!
