The Most Important Goal I’ve Ever Set

We all walk through life chasing our dreams, setting goals and trying to find a purpose. Some people find purpose in their jobs, others in money, love or adventure. While those things can have a great value in your life, I’ve come to understand that my own greatest goal isn’t any of those things. It’s a goal that anchors in everything I do, it’s simple, to be a better Christian.

This isn’t just a slogan for me, it’s a daily pursuit. I want to reflect Christ more clearly in how I think, speak, act and treat others. Not because I want to appear better from the outside, but because of what God has done for me. I want to live my life to be a thank-you note in response.

Faith Over Formula

Being a better Christian isn’t just about following religious rules. It’s about making my relationship with Jesus deeper. I’ve learnt that prayer shouldn’t be something thats done before a meal or bed time. It’s something that can be done all day everyday. Praying is how you keep your relationship up with God. Who wants a relationship where you only talk once before you go to sleep everyday?

Everybody falls short, I do… alot. But being a better Christian isn’t about being perfect, it’s about commitment. It’s getting up when I fall, asking for forgiveness and letting Gods grace do the work. The closer I get to Christ, the more I feel His love.

Living It Out Loud

I always want my faith to reflect in how I treat people. This means being kind when I maybe don’t want to, forgiving when I don’t feel like it and loving others when they don’t deserve it. This means showing compassion to strangers, speaking the truth to others with grace and being a light in dark places.

If you have a faith of your own you should never be ashamed to show it. Be who God called you to be and share how you feel and the love you have with others. Live your faith out loud for others to see.

A Lifelong Journey

Unlike other goals, this one will never be “completed.” Becoming a better Christian has no end goal. It’s a life long commitment to becoming better. Growth in Christ is never done.

Everyday is a new opportunity to grow and love more like He does.

So when I think about my biggest goal in life, it’s not something flashy or impressive in the eyes of the world. It’s simply to walk closely with Jesus and become more like Him. And I know If I can do that, and try everyday, everything else in His plan for my life will fall into place.

  1. This is so beautiful!
My partner and I were doing Bible study yesterday and we reflected on John 5. One thing we both got from the chapter is how the Jewish leaders really thought they were worshipping God because they knew the scriptures but they were all blinded by religion rather than being set free through Jesus. They cared more about Sabbath laws than knowing the Messiah.
God just really wants a relationship with us, not for us to pursue religion and reject Him.

    1. I love this so much and you’re so right. We can easily get distracted by religion and the rules and laws they come with. But all God wants is a relationship with us. Thank you for sharing that!
