Starting your own business can be scary and exciting all at once. But remember, every successful company you see today began with just an idea, often from someone in the exact place you’re in now. One day, you’ll look back, maybe even as you’re easing into retirement, and feel proud of how far you’ve come. Imagine seeing the legacy you’ve built and remembering the moment you decided to take that first leap.
Today I will be sharing some of my top tips on how to start your own business.

NAIL DOWN YOUR BUSINESS IDEA
Before making logos and branding you need to make sure you have a clear idea on what you want your business to be. Think about what skills and knowledge you already have. Is there something you specialise in? Are you a subject matter expert in any field? Is there a gap in the market that you’ve noticed?
It doesn’t have to be a crazy innovative project, many businesses were built by doing something simple. Whatever it is though, make sure it’s something you have a passion for. You’ll be spending a lot of your time on this project, so you have to make sure it’s something you love.
DO SOME RESEARCH
This might seem obvious but research is often missed by some when they start their own business. It’s always a good idea to get a feel for potential competitors, their pricing and what is in demand. Your research phase doesn’t need to be extensive, it can be as simple as Googling.
GET THE FOUNDATIONS RIGHT
This is the part people often rush through, but my advice is don’t skip it. You’ll need to decide how to structure your business. You’ll also need to register your business name and sort out a business bank account.
This is also where good accountant services come in handy. A reliable accountant will be a life saver, and it is something you should do from day one. They can help you deal with tax registrations and make sure that you’re doing your company finance correctly.
BUILD YOUR PRESENCE ONLINE
An online presence when you have a business is essential. Even if you’re not running an online store, many people will Google you before they buy or hire from you.
A simple website will do, just something that explains who you are, what you offer and how people can get in contact with you. Then it’s vital to build your presence on social media. If this part feels like too much for you, consider hiring an online marketing agency. They can point you in the right direction and help build your brand.
Starting a business can feel so overwhelming, but it could just be the most rewarding thing you’ll ever do. With the right support you can make your business a success. So take the first step, i know it seems scary but it could well pay off.
