How to Keep Kids Happy and Engaged During School Breaks

School holidays can be so fun and exciting but also a challenge keeping little ones occupied. It’s a great opportunity to make new family memories but can become a little overwhelming when the weather is bad or there isn’t much going on for them.

MIX IT UP WITH A GETAWAY

A holiday is always a good idea, right?

A short family trip doesn’t have to be expensive or extravagant. Sometimes all you need is a change of scenery. Booking a holiday house in Noosa, for example, gives the whole family a relaxing base with plenty of outdoor fun nearby. Whether it’s the beach, nature walks or bike trails there is always something fun to do, rain or shine.

Plus a house space is always better for families than being cooped up inside of a hotel room.

CREATE A LOOSE ROUTINE

While the school holidays are meant to be a break from a routine, keeping one always helps keep the whole family on track. Kids thrive on routine even during downtime.

Make sure to keep a structured plan for your days, maybe morning is for outside play and afternoons for inside arts and crafts. Keep bedtimes around their usual times, that way when school starts again it won’t be such a shock to the system.

TAP INTO LOCAL RESOURCES

Your local area will have so many options for keeping your kids happy during the school holidays. Libraries and museums are usually in most towns and often run free or low cost holiday programmes for kids.

If you do have to work during the break, many childcare providers offer holiday sessions packed full of fun activities for kids.

Keeping kids happy and engaged during school holidays doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune keeping them entertained. There are so many options out there for you.

And remember, don’t put pressure on yourself to have everyday jam packed with fun things to do. Downtime is important as well. These holidays can be a great way for your family to reset.
