The Toxic Side of Social Media

The Toxic Side of Social Media

As many of you know I really love using social media for my blog. I find it so beneficial to use and have shared the positives I’ve found from using Instagram for blogging. But with most positives there comes negatives, especially where social media is concerned. I find its such a blessing and a curse. It can be used for so much good but so much bad too. There is such a fine line between the good and bad though, that sometimes you don’t even realise that the bad is there.

I’ve been lucky enough to have mainly positive experiences when it comes to social media but have had my fair share of negatives too. But I know thats not alot of peoples experiences online.

Social media can be toxic and can be bad for you if you allow it to. Remember that you are in control of what you allow into your life. There should always be a line between your personal life and what you share online.

Why The Unfollow Button Should be Your Best Friend

Why The Unfollow Button Should be Your Best Friend

We have all used the beloved unfollow button at some point in our lives, and don’t lie to me and tell me you haven’t. There is a reason why the unfriend button is there on every single social media platform.

Personally I utilise the unfollow button on almost every social media platform I own. I am always clearing out my online friend lists. Just like in offline life, we don’t hang around or be-friend people who are bad people, so I am a firm believer in not inviting them into my online space either. If I wouldn’t be friends with them in life then I won’t be friends with them online. We really need to normalise removing people from our social media platforms. So many people get upset and offended if they find out that you unfollow them. But alot of the time it’s just because of the content they post. If I don’t like it, I’ll unfollow you. It doesn’t mean anything other than that.

Today I’ll be sharing some reasons as to why the unfollow button should be used more and how it can help filter out that bad stuff!

How I Gained 2k Blog Followers in 4 Months

Running a blog is hard work, but with hard work comes results. I gained 2k blog followers in 4 months, and today I’m going to share my strategy on how I achieved it. I truly did not expect to gain 2k followers in 4 months, I had no idea this would happen. But I was thinking back to when I came back to blogging in July of this year (2020) and how I would have really appreciated a post like this. As some sort of motivation and guidance.

If you are here because you think I’m going to give you some secret code that gives you those followers overnight, you are looking in the wrong place. This happened from hard work and dedication and nothing more. It wont happen overnight and it didn’t for me. The tips I share are the things I did to make this happen. It’s up to you to put in the hard work to see the results.

Social Media Breaks & Why We Need Them

Social Media Breaks & Why We Need Them

Social media breaks are something that should be utilised more than they currently are. Do you ever get the feeling like you just want to delete all of your socials and run away from your phone? Me too! We should do everything in moderation, but phone consumption is at an all time high. You rarely meet someone who doesn’t have a phone. Technology and social media can be a blessing and a curse. I have spoken before on my blog at how social media – specifically Instagram can play such a huge part in helping to grow your online presence but at what cost? Remember there is a fine line, everything in moderation.

We probably miss out on so much of our lives because our heads are buried in our phones. Thats such a sad thought. I’m so glad that I wasn’t brought up around all of this technology and that I was able to have such a great childhood without having to be entertained with an electronic device. Social media breaks are something that should be done on a more regular basis, just to keep us sane. We spend so much time on our phones that we often forget to live life not through a screen. In todays post I hope to share some thoughts on social media breaks and why I think we need them.

The Benefits I’ve Seen From Using Instagram For Blogging

The Benefits I’ve Seen From Using Instagram For Blogging

I don’t think alot of people realise the work that goes into running a blog full time, there’s so much more to it than just writing and posting content. Theres the interaction side of it, and making sure that you are supporting other people as much as they are supporting you. Theres the upkeep, making sure that all of the links are working on your site, and making sure you are staying ontop of post ideas and emails and sticking to your blogging schedule. I could go on and on.

I know there are a few people out there who don’t like Instagram, and I can understand why. In the recent years they have changed their algorithm, and it’s made it even harder for creators for their work to be seen. I started my blog instagram page in September, previous to starting the blog page I was using my own personal Instagram. It didn’t take me long to realise this was a bad idea. I think for me it’s important to have some sort of separation from personal and blog, which is the main reason why I started the separate account.

Since starting my Instagram account I have personally seen many benefits of having the account for my blog, and today I’ll be going through those benefits today.

How I Survived a Seven Day Digital Detox And What I Learnt From It

How I Survived a Seven Day Digital Detox And What I Learnt From It

[Guest Post]

Answer this before you read on – When did you first check your phone today?

Hi! My name is Pranjali Jain, from Dainty Palms. I write about mental health and lifestyle- trying to inspire others and myself to be the best possible version of ourselves. Today I am going to share my experience and the importance of digital detox with y’all. Thank you, Olivia, for the opportunity to bring this forward!

A week ago, I did a seven-day long digital detox, wherein I shut my social media handles and my blog for a break. The pressure of posting anything, replying, and being active was too much to handle. And I think I am not the only one to face this. So, if your answer to the question was close to “within an hour of waking up”, you probably need a digital detox.
