How to Support Your Favourite Bloggers

Showing support to your favourite bloggers is so important. We really appreciate and love being shown love and support from our readers. The main thing that keeps me going and keeps me posting is the love I have for my readers. My blog would be nowhere without you. You really are so important to bloggers and keep our motivation up. It took me way too long when I first started my blogging journey to understand and realise the importance of blogging friends and community. But now I am more of an experienced blogger, I understand the need to have that support system.

I realise that there might be new bloggers or supporters out there who maybe don’t know how or what to do, to best support bloggers. So I thought it would be a nice idea to give some guidance on what to do and what not to do.

WHAT TO DO

REBLOG AND SHARE OUR CONTENT

As bloggers we really love to see you reblog and share our content. The more exposure we can get the better. Re-blogging or linking to our posts means so much to us. And it really helps our blogs to rank for SEO too. Sharing could also be via social media too. Sharing on Instagram or twitter is a plus for us, as it helps to increase traffic to our sites.

GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE

One thing you should be doing regularly is linking to other bloggers websites. If you have used an idea from another blogger (and asked permission before hand), then linking back to their original post is really appreciated. We love it when we are asked for permission, even though alot of the time we don’t need it. It’s just nice to be asked.

Always be respectful of other peoples wishes. If another blogger doesn’t wish for you to write about a certain topic or link to their websites then don’t do it.

COMMENTS ARE GREAT

One of the best ways to support bloggers is commenting. Leaving comments on posts really helps to encourage other people to feel comfortable to comment. It’s also such a great way for us to connect. I have had so many wonderful conversations with fellow bloggers in the comment section. It’s one of my favourite places to connect with my readers. So if you see a post with no comments, leave one!

WHAT NOT TO DO

COPY CONTENT

Recently I have become the victim of copyright infringement. I had recently wrote a post about how imitation is not the highest form of flattery and then the day after I was a victim of this myself. Do not under any circumstances copy peoples content. I cannot stress this enough. You can take inspiration from other bloggers and let their posts inspire you to create your own ideas but do not copy them.

In my instance my work was copied word for word and continued to be copied even after I asked them to stop. There are serious consequences from copying someones work. Whether it’s a blog post or anything else online. I really hope that you don’t ever have to go through that as a blogger. It’s really upsetting and made me so angry.

SELF PROMOTION

I didn’t realise this was a thing until a few months ago. I had an influx of people commenting on my blog simply just sharing their own blog or a product they were selling. They were promoting themselves in my comment section and wanting people to follow them. This is so rude and something you should never ever do to another blogger. If you want to support bloggers, go through the correct channels to advertise on their sites.

Many bloggers now have advertising packages you can choose from. Do not expect free promotion from anyone. And if you do this, expect to be blocked.

How do you support fellow bloggers? And how would you like to be supported as a blogger?

It’s such a shame that some people don’t know how to properly support bloggers. And this is exactly why I decided to share this post, so that you could become more educated on how to help and support some of your favourite bloggers.

  1. This post is really need of the hour Olivia. As a blogger we work so hard and we expect minimum things from our readers. To other bloggers if I love their post I like and comment on their blogs. I think this is a way I can support them for their work. As a blogger I expect the same that some comments and feedback helps me to improve my work. As a blogger it’s important to work hard and write their own content. Every blogger should have their own thoughts and their style. Happy Blogging Olivia☺️

It’s frustrating and unkind when people plagiarise content. I get that newbie bloggers may not quite understand the difference between reblogging and copying, but the main key is getting permission and giving credit where it’s due. @chocoviv is a great example of someone who always gets permission before she reposts someone else’s content and always makes sure that the credit is given to the right blogger.

  3. Hey Olivia
How did you find out someone copied your whole blog?
    Self-promotion annoys me.

Headed up one of your posts inspired me, and I made sure add your link to the post.

    1. I just happened to stumble across it. I wanted to show this person love as they were always so supportive of me. And then I clicked onto their blog and saw 9 posts that were all copied from my blog.

Thanks for telling me know! I look forward to reading it 🙂

  4. I love when people leave a comment on something I have written. For me, it helps me feel that what ever they have commented on, touched them in some way. And yes, it does inspire me to work and try harder. Thank you for a guiding and inspirational write.

  6. I love getting to read comments on my blogs. It truly helps me understand what my reader like and don’t like. It wasn’t until I started commenting on other bloggers that I started getting comments. It’s sad like you sad when people just want to promote themselves and instead of helping each other else.

  7. Such a great blogpost. It is shameful when some cannot be original but rather copy others. I definitely agree that if someone inspires you in your writing then you should give them the credit. Give respect and honor to each other. 😊

  8. Oh yeah, in every post about bad blogging practice I’ve been to, there’s always one that mentions self-promotion, and it really is poor form to advertise your site on other people’s blogs, especially if it’s a straight up ‘very good pls visit my site [URL here]’. Thanks for this post!

  9. Thank you for sharing this Olivia. You always seem to know just what I need to read. I really enjoy these blogging tips posts. I have so much to learn and your content always teaches me something new. So sorry you have to experience such a violation from a fellow blogger. There is a line between getting inspiration from a post and coping verbatim. We definitely need to ask permission more and leave credit.

  11. As a new blogger I found this very helpful and am happy to say I luckily have not made any of those mistakes. I feel like a blog is sort of someone’s own creative personal journey and nobody has the right to steal, yes I said steal because that’s what it is, someone else’s work! I’m so sorry this happened to you! Thanks for the great advice and I love your blog! I just found you and am looking forward to reading more!
