Losing your groove and trying to get back into writing can be a struggle, and it’s one I am facing right now. I don’t know about you, but now life has gone back to somewhat normal, my time for blogging and writing has become less and less. And maybe I just need to stop putting so much pressure on myself, or maybe I just need to suck it up and get back into doing what I love. I don’t know, I’m trying to figure that part out still.
I tell people alot, that even with hobbies and things you enjoy, it’s healthy and okay to want a break from it. You don’t have to do it all the time, sometimes taking a break is more important than soldiering on.
I’ve been struggling to get back into writing recently, and you may or may not have noticed due to the lack of posts. I am always going to be the first one to put my hands up and admit when I’m struggling with something. I’ve always been that way. Real life can get in the way of our passions and desires so easily, and I think thats what’s happened. But I am here today to share some tips and advice on how to get back into writing and get your groove back. These are some of the things I’m doing myself, so you’ll be doing it with me if you choose to follow my advice!
GET BACK TO WRITING ABOUT THE THINGS YOU ENJOY MOST
I think one of the main issues I have had with getting back into writing is that I am overthinking it alot. I want to create content that I love, but I want my content to do well aswell. It’s hard sometimes to find that perfect balance of writing what you want and writing what you know your audience enjoys aswell. One thing I have learnt to do recently is just write about what I am passionate about.
Recently I posted content about relationships and attachment styles because thats something I have been learning about in my real life. I loved creating that post because it’s something I am enjoying myself.
Going back to writing about the things you enjoy most is one of the best things you can do.

HAVE FUN
Remember that writing and blogging is meant to be fun and something you enjoy to do. I know I put too much pressure on myself to be ‘perfect’ and do things right. But in reality, writing is supposed to be a hobby and something thats to be enjoyed. Remember why you started and go back to the new writer you once were.
Write about all of the fun and exciting things happening in your life, or share your favourite recent movies. What I’m trying to say here is to not take yourself too seriously.

TAKE INSPIRATION FROM THINGS AROUND YOU
I have said this once before, but one way I have been trying to get back into writing is finding inspiration through everyday things. It could be something someone said to you that day, or a book you read. As writers things are not linear for us. We can go in one direction or another. Life is full of amazing opportunities for us to create amazing work, we just need to be willing to see it for what it is.
Collabing and guest posting with other bloggers is another great way to get content out on your site. I have been doing this recently and its so lovely being able to connect with new bloggers and having the opportunity to have my work on their sites. It really helps having another person to brain storm with aswell!

I lose my ability to write when I’m depressed which is currently for 5 months a year due to bipolar disorder. I find it really hard to deal with as when I’m well, the words flow with ease. For me, I just have to accept that my blog goes quiet during the Autumn/Winter period and then comes back to life just before Spring begins.
I love that so much, that you just accept that your blog comes alive in spring. I think we all need to adapt this mentality! We cant expect to be ‘on’ all through the year.

Those are some great tips, especially the ‘Get back to writing about the things you love most’ is so true. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for reading!
When blogging is no longer fun and I feel like it’s becoming more of a chore, that’s usually when I stop writing. I get discouraged by my stats because my blog is small compared to other bloggers who are killing it in this industry. I try not to compare myself but it’s really hard not to. I agree that blogging should be fun, and when you are really struggling, I recommend just blogging for yourself. Go back to your roots and figure out why you started blogging in the first place.
It can be very discouraging for sure, I have struggled with comparison in the past. I think we often forget were all on our own paths, and higher numbers don’t always equal more success!
Yes Olivia. Very true writing is fun and tough at the same time. I too lose my mind when I have nothing to write
It can be frustrating cant it!?
It’s interesting to read this today Olivia. As I was putting my March roundup of best blog posts together this morning, I commented that the blogging community has gone quiet in recent weeks as life returns to normal.
I think you have to write when inspiration hits. Like this morning…I had other things to do, but I got a burst of inspiration and sat down and wrote a new post.
In the end, when what’s supposed to be a source of joy turns into a chore, you have to remind yourself why you started blogging in the first place. If those reasons no longer inspire you, it might be time to call it a day.
You’re so right Michelle, if something fun turns into a chore its time to take a step back and re-evaluate for sure.
Aww, I hope you get back on the regular posting wagon soon. I can definitely relate, and at the same time, I appreciate you still posting this despite feeling that way. Thanks for being an inspiration!
I think we all go through phases!
These are some great tips Olivia! I stopped writing for a while, long while. And whenever I want to write again, it’s almost as if I have forgotten how to. I’ll follow your tips and get back on track!
I hope they help friend!
It’s easy to loose concentration especially at this time of the year. Having fun will definetely get you back on track. So you’re right!
We all should remember to have fun in the first place.
Thanks.
I agree, ‘real life’ can get in the way sometimes.
i’ve been feeling very similar with finding time to write. with wedding mode in full crunch time, i feel like I won’t have proper time until this summer. luckily, i did schedule a few posts early knowing i would be busy right now. i think us bloggers need to be less hard on ourselves and know there will be times where we need breaks. plus, when you live life, you start to come up with content. 🙂
You’re so right! When we experience real life stuff, it makes good inspiration and content for our blogs. But we have to set time aside for that fun!
Great tips Olivia! All that matters is that when you’re writing, it’s from a place of joy or peace and not obligation 🙂
Agreed!
I hope you’re well! 🙂
Overall I’m doing well right now thank you 🙂
I had a similar episode today, which led me to writing this

This is what i am trying to do….
I can totally relate to this. I’ve been in a writing rut trying to figure out what content to put out. As you advised, taking inspiration from everyday life and writing about topics that interest me at the moment is helping me. Doing this has allowed the words to flow easily when I sit to write. Great tips here. Thanks for sharing.
Really insightful post Olivia. Greatly appreciate your honesty about the process. I’m new to the blogging game and constantly struggle with this.
I especially enjoyed reading your tip on collaborating with other bloggers. Writing does not have to be a solitary process. I found your tips insightful and well-thought out. Thank you for sharing
