It’s always so cliche to talk about becoming a new person in the new year. But honestly, if the new year is the thing to motivate people to become better. Who are we to bash others for setting goals? Setting new habits can be done no matter the time of the week, month or year. Its always good to start when you’re ready!
When setting personal goals or wanting to create new habits it’s always important to remember to make them achievable. There’s no point in making a goal so hard to reach that failure will be inevitable. I’ve made those mistakes in the past of setting really ambitious goals and then feeling like a failure when I didn’t reach them. So take that into consideration when setting your new year habits.
The goals you want to set, don’t have to be transformative either. I’ve titled this post New Year, New Goals, Same Me because there is always this underlying pressure that we must change ourselves. You can stay the same in ways and change for the better in other ways. And thats okay! You don’t have to completely re-haul your complete self every year. Sometimes staying the same but setting healthier life habits is the way to go.
Here are some of the things I’m going to be doing in the coming year. And I want to hear from you in the comments below. Tell me what you’re doing next year thats different!
SETTING HEALTHY BOUNDARIES
Setting boundaries is something new I have been learning and trying to implement in my life recently. And with this new year, I have set myself some goals to ensure that I do it often. Setting a boundary with someone can be hard, especially when it’s done out of love for yourself and the other person. I want to make sure the boundaries I set are done respectfully and made as clear as possible.
It’s not always easy setting boundaries with those you love. But it can be done in a way that nobody gets offended by them. I hope I come back to this post next year and I can tick this one off of my list!

NEW FITNESS GOALS
This year I trained and ran TWO half marathons. Which isn’t something I thought I’d ever say! It was really tough and afterwards I injured my back. Meaning I haven’t ran in months. I’ve started some work on getting my back strong again, so next year I want to get back to where I was with my fitness and running.
Its something that will take time, but its achievable!

TAKING CHARGE OF MY FINANCES
I have pretty much always felt in control of my finances. But, it never hurts to make sure that you have everything in check. I’d really love to focus on saving money and making sure that I prioritise having money to do fun things! I have learnt so much about finances and savings in the last few years of having my own home and paying bills. I know there is so much more to learn, but I’m ready to take it all on!
Times are tough for alot of people, and I think if alot more people had the resources to learn how to manage money, everybody would be in a much better position.

MAKING AN EFFORT
There is nothing more heartbreaking than feeling like you have one sided friendships. I’ve felt like this countless times throughout my life and honestly there is no worse feeling. Making an effort with the people you have in your life is so important. Life is so short! In the new year I want to ensure that my friendships and relationships are kept up. I wouldn’t want anybody to feel as though they have a one sided relationship with me. So, on my list of priorities is to ensure I spend time with those I love in my life, even if it gets hard sometimes. Keeping those relationships up is really important!

I’m actually at the point of reviewing a lot of things, and feel ready to embark on some major changes. I was actually just journalling some initial thoughts before reading your post. I would say I’m planning out what I need to do now because I’m ready. I don’t plan to wait until 1st January.
The one thing you highlighted that really resonated with me is working on my friendships. I’ll definitely be making this a focus going forward too.
Good luck Olivia
It’s wonderful to hear that you are going to make changes already! I really wanted to emphasise that making changes doesn’t require a new day, week, month, or year. We can make positive changes now!
Make them when it’s right for you, when you’re ready. It should never really be because of what someone else wants.
Awesome goals. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for reading 🙂
I’m changing things up with my goals for 2023. Instead of big goals for the year, I’m going to set smaller, monthly goals. I’m still working on my January list but each month will probably include a healthy living goal or two, a learning goal, and a mental health or spirituality goal.
I really love that Michelle. Smaller more achievable goals means you’ll probably make much more positive changes in the year rather than a big unachievable one. Good luck with those!
Astounding post Olivia and very sincere I can tell. The New Year is a great year to really make progress in your life and achieve whatever you wish or want to attain.
I love the last point about Relationship and friendships that we must try to hold on to them and make time plus effort for them , I too would love to process check the people who are dear to me and do great things for them out of love.
One thing I want to accomplish in this New Year is getting a Great Job that will make me Independent and responsible so that I manage my finances very properly
Happy Holidays Olivia 🌲🌲🌲👏👏
I wish you the best of luck in achieving that goal! Merry Christmas to you!

It really is, but goals that will be for more than just the first month of year! They need to be healthy, achievable habits that we can practice all year round 🙂
