With the world economy being how it is, I know that having extra money each month is really important. But, making money from blogging isn’t something that just happens overnight, although it would be great if it did!
I didn’t start making money from my blog until maybe a year into writing. So, I paid for everything on my blog out of pocket and patiently waited for the money to start trickling in. Which it did eventually!
GROW YOUR FOLLOWING
Although growing your following isn’t absolutely essential to start working with brands, it’s definitely something you need to consistently work at anyway. I worked with brands when my traffic and follower count was low, and when it was higher. It really just depends what kind of audience the brand is looking for.
To grow you following I would suggest the following things:
- Be consistent – Post regularly and keep it to your specific niche
- Research what the hot topics are
- Learn SEO from the get go to favour search engines
- Utilise social media and post on every platform you can
Another great way to grow your audience and following is using external sites such as the MK Blog Directory. Blog directories are places where people can go to search for specific blogs to reach and use. A perfect place for brands to scout for potential bloggers to work with.

REACH OUT TO BRANDS & WORK WITH OTHER BLOGGERS
Reaching out to brands and other bloggers can seem like a really scary thing to do, and sometimes it is! But, you won’t know if you don’t ever try. Create yourself a media kit and start sending it out to brands you want to work with. At first you might only start getting free products (which is great!) but eventually as you grow in yourself and your blog, you’ll feel confident enough to start asking brands for money instead! I’ve done this a few times.
Something that is often overlooked when thinking about making money online is working with other bloggers. Never underestimate the power of putting two brains together to start selling products to make money. Myself and my blogging friend Michelle did this. We put our brain together a few years ago and created some content on how to grow your blog in 30 days and we sold it as a guide. I would never have been able to do that without her. So having people around you who know about blogging and have the same goals is very beneficial for you both.

BE PROACTIVE
You have to remember that work doesn’t just land on your lap. Success doesn’t just appear out of nowhere. Sometimes you have to take the initiative and get things going yourself. I’ve had brands reach out to me in the past, but I’ve also made sure I’m staying proactive in emailing brands to work with me and seeing what their influencer/blogger programmes are like.
If you don’t ask then you’ll never know. Don’t be afraid of being told no. Thats literally the worst thing that can happen. And if it does, you just move on from it. There are brands out there who cant wait to work with creators like you.
