When it comes to things you rely on in life, few things can match your car. Every day people everywhere head out the house, get in the car, and expect it to work. When it doesn’t and you hear the fatal sound of silence from the engine, it pretty much ruins your entire day. One thing you can be sure of is that there aren’t many things more depressing than starting your day with a car that refuses to work. Well, apart from finding out that your car is well and truly broken and won’t be working ever again. Now that’s definitely worse.

This is a contributed post.
If the time has come around to say a sad farewell to your four-wheeled friend don’t spend too long dwelling on it. Your new vehicle awaits, you just need to try and find it first. Before you rush off to the Audi dealer, slam on those brakes, because there are a few things you need to know.
Making a mistake when choosing your shiny new car can be seriously expensive. To help you dodge any car-buying pitfalls you encounter, we have gathered together the main mistakes you need to avoid when you hunt for your new set of wheels.
Buying with your heart
There’s no place for romance when it comes to seeking out your new car. Instead, you need to have your practical head screwed on firmly. Yep it sounds bizarre, but it is so, so easy to fall in love in the showroom. The salesman’s impressive chat can soon have you wielding a pen and desperate to sign on the dotted line.
Right now, you need to dive beyond all the talk of custom features and limited edition thingymajigs and think practically. You’re about to part with a pretty huge amount of cash, so you need to be sure that you are doing the right thing.
Before you do anything else, try to put your practical head on and forget about just how good the car looks right now. Think about whether it really does match what you need perfectly and whether you will be able to use it for everything that you need to. Of course, if the answer is absolutely yes, then you may have just found your winner!
Forgetting about your finances
Unfortunately, there’s one thing that can come between a person and the car of their dreams. Yep, you guessed it, the age-old problem of cold, hard cash. While it’s a pain, you need to make doubly sure that you can afford your new set of wheels. Yes, this does mean going through your finances with a fine-toothed comb, and weighing up whether you can really afford it. But, in a year from now, when you are driving around without money worries, you will be glad that you whipped out your calculator now.
Of course, there’s more to getting a car than the outright cost, you also need to check you can afford insurance, vehicle tax, and its running costs, too.

Thanks!
I’ll definitely keep this advice in mind, particularly the one about your heart when that may inevitably happen to me in a few years 😆 Great post Olivia! What was your first car?
