My Top 5 Benefits of Journaling

[GUEST POST]

I’ve been journaling for two years now, but writing I’ve been doing it all my life. Journaling has helped me tremendously since the time I decided to be consistent with it. As a blogger, I feel that journaling is an important and beneficial habit. Let’s look at five benefits of journaling. But first, a little introduction to me!

Hello, my name is Heidy, and I’m guest blogging for Olivia today. My blog is called Into My Thoughts. I share personal experiences, encouraging faith-based posts and poetry. Feel free to read some of my posts after you have read this one.

JOURNALING CAN HELP TO ORGANISE YOUR THOUGHTS

Not only will journaling help keep your thoughts organised, but it also helps with memory because you won’t have to keep everything stored in your brain. You know how you tell yourself you must do something later? But then, you forget? If you write it down, you’re more likely to remember it because you’ll see it later. Spending 5 minutes writing anything that comes to mind or brain dumping can help clear your mind.

IT CAN HELP WITH GOAL SETTING & ACHIEVEMENTS

You are more likely to stick to your goals if you write them down then just saying you’re going to do something. Once you set a goal, the next step is to break it down and create steps to achieve those goals.

Since you have written them down, you can do weekly or monthly check-ins and see how you progress towards your goals. Or you can adjust them if they seem like they are unachievable.

Do what works for you!

JOURNALING CAN BE A STRESS RELIEVER

I mentioned brain dump under “organise your thoughts,” but it also ties with stress reliever.

Write down your stresses, anxieties, worries, and it will instantly make you feel relieved. It can even help you make a plan for overcoming challenges you may be facing at the time.

Positivepsychology.com explains how journaling can be helpful for mental health.

IT CAN HELP TO BOOST CREATIVITY

Brainstorming! What’s the best way to brainstorm than to write everything out? Write down all your ideas, and as you’re working on one project and an idea for another project comes up, write it down.

I have many notes on my phone and in my journal about topics for blog posts I want to write. This helps with scheduling my blog posts.

JOURNALING HELPS WITH SELF-REFLECTION

Since everything is written down, like goals, thoughts, plans, and creativity, it is such a great idea if you look back at your journal every month at the end of the month and see how far you’ve come. You can see what you’ve accomplished, what still needs to be worked on, and make any adjustments you see fit.

I love looking back at my journal and seeing prayers I’ve written, prayers that were answered, goals I set and accomplished, and I take that time to really be grateful for how far I’ve come. This also boosts my self-confidence because I can see it in writing all I’ve done.

Do you journal? How has it helped you? I’d love to hear about it.

There are many more benefits to journaling than just these five, and it also depends on what you’re trying to get out of the journaling. But these are key benefits that can help anyone navigate their day to day life.

With Love, Heidy

  2. Self -reflection is something I have always thought was important and journaling really helps with this! And writing it down makes it easier to notice how far you have come in a month, which really helps with confidence if you are going through a hard time!

  5. It was really interesting and made me want to get back to journaling! I also think that journaling can be a great way to learn a language! I know it can sound weird, but it is when I started journaling in English that my English improved the most: it is easier to write in a foreign languages when you are writing about things that you have experienced!

    Once more, really great post!
