We all have things we are addicted to in life. But one thing us bloggers have in common is that we are all probably addicted blogging. Whether we realise it or not. Well, hate to say it folks, you probably are! Don’t worry though, this is a safe space for you to admit it. We’re all here for you! The first step to overcoming it is to admit it!
Blogging addiction is real and very present in alot of bloggers lives. Now there are worse things to be addicted to [obviously] but that doesn’t mean its a good addiction to have. If its interrupting your life and having more of a negative impact on your mood then its time I’d say to re-evaluate what you’re doing.
For todays post as the title says, we will be going through 7 for sure signs that you’re addicted to blogging. Let me know in the comments if you tick off any of these signs!
YOU’RE A SERIAL STATS CHECKER
Do you find yourself constantly refreshing your stats page in hopes it goes up by 1 or 2 views and likes? Because SAME. Guilty as charged. I used to be one of these people and still am sometimes. We [for some reason] have it in our minds that numbers are everything and you’re only doing well if you have high numbers. This leads to the addiction of always having to check if people are interacting with your content.
If this is you, I’d suggest turning off your notifications on the blogging app you use. I did this a few weeks ago and it allows me to forget about my blog and enjoy what’s actually going on in-front of me. Out of sight out of mind!
BLOGGING IS ALWAYS ON YOUR MIND
I always seem to get my content inspiration in the shower or just before I’m about to drop off to sleep. WHY?! Is there science behind this? Why can’t I get these bursts of inspiration at a more suitable time? Ugh, so annoying. This point links in nicely with the serial stats checker point I made too. I often find myself wondering how my posts are doing or if anybody has commented on it when I shouldn’t even be thinking of blogging.
YOU READ YOUR BLOG LIKE ITS THE MORNING PAPER
The sound of your alarm echos into your silent room, you slowly roll over to turn it off. You pick up your phone and open your blogging app, and there it begins. How many times have you started your day off by checking how your blog did overnight and what new comments you have to respond to? I will be honest and say its one of the first things I do every morning.
I flick through my reader and my notifications like its my morning paper. My day doesn’t feel right if I miss this step. It’s part of my routine.
YOU BLOG EVERYWHERE
On a plane, on a train, in a car or even in bed. You are probably blogging. I know alot of people even blog on vacation too. I guess the flip side to this, is that sometimes those times are the only time people have to themselves, which would then make sense as to why you choose to blog in those places.
I’m guilty of blogging in various places, one being late a night in bed. Like I said earlier, alot of my ideas come to me at night whilst I’m trying to sleep. So why not make use of the time!
YOU CHECK OUT YOUR WEBSITE …ALOT
When I say check your website I don’t mean checking statistics and reading comments. I mean googling your own site to make sure everything looks okay. I probably spend an unhealthy amount of time doing this! My main reason for it [and probably yours too] is to make sure that everything looks the way its mean to look. I love to see how things look from the readers perspective.
I would actually suggest to do this, because you don’t want to miss anything about your site and have it make you look bad. There is a fine line between checking and though and over checking. Which means that probably puts us into two groups I guess, the ones with OCD and the ones without!
RANDOM CONVERSATIONS TURN INTO BLOG POSTS
This has happened to me sooo many times! I’ve been having random conversations with fellow bloggers or friends and family. And instantly it’s like a light bulb turns on in my brain and I’m like ‘this would make a great blog post idea!’. I’m sure this is quite a common thing though, as bloggers were always trying to come up with fresh, new content!
IF ITS NOT YOUR BLOG ITS SOMEONE ELSES
If you’re anything like me, when I’m not stressing over my own blog I am enjoying other peoples content. The reader on WordPress is such a great thing to have as it makes finding other bloggers so much easier. I wouldn’t necessarily say that this is a bad thing to be ‘addicted’ to. Helping and supporting other bloggers is needed in this space.
I really love finding new bloggers to be friends with. It really makes me happy. The more in my blogging circle the better!
How many out of the 7 signs did you tick off?
Do you think you’re addicted to blogging?
Do you think being addicted is a good or bad thing?
An interesting topic and something to ponder on! I for sure have some level of addiction to blogging, but I think its more the addiction to success and wanting to do well than the act itself!

I am almost 7\7 stage right now.😊😊😂😂
And that is okay🤣🤣
Trust me😂I would write a whole blog on my mind while trying to sleep. It’s crazy. Everything that happens in my daily life, I could somehow produce a blog from it, even from the most random bits..
Obsessed doesn’t even do it🙃😂But it means we care (that’s what I tell myself to hide my shame) xx
You’re right! Theres worse things to be addicted to🤣
Haha you are very talented then 😂😂😊😊💗💗💗
OMG I’m guilty as charged with everything! It’s only 2 months and I think I’m already addicted.
Its easy to get addicted to!!
Omg!! Me too. Two months in..
Haha! I love this post! thanks for writing this. I thought I was the only one who checked my blog obsessively, googled it several times a day and basically thinks about it 24/7. lol
Omg yes, I’m always thinking about my blog! 😁
Oh crap, I don’t dare counting how many I’ve ticked, because those are definitely things I do as well, lol.
Hahaha! Nothing wrong if you did tick them all, cause I do too!
Covers face 😂 I’m all 7 oh dear. Where do I sign up because I’m addicted to your blog? Is there a support group for us 😩.
😜 this made my day🤣 I don’t see this as a bad addiction 😉
Surely it is important to consider why you are blogging in the first place. If you make your living from your website then perhaps many of the habits you outline above are partially justified. If not then these are damaging habits you may be well to curb.
Of course! But I think when you first start blogging it just comes with it, because you want your blog to do well. There are pros and cons to them all!
I didn’t know I have some level of addiction until now. I relate to some of the points you’ve so clearly explained. I’d be more keen on this.
🤣 so glad I could help with your blogging addiction realisation!
😀 and thank you for this help
You’re welcome!
Ooh I love this post! I’m all 7 of them you mentioned 😆 what should I do 😅😅
I would say do nothing🤣unless of course its having an effect on other areas of your life!
😂😂
Actually it’s not affecting my personal life in a wrong way, so I’m okay with it🙂
So then I see no problem with your addiction🤗
Thanks!
I do think being addicted can potentially lead to burn out in the long term. Can totally relate to having blog post ideas when you least want them though haha!
I agree! It does, especially when you feel as though you need to know how your blog is doing all of the time! A break really helps with this!
I’m definitely a serial stats checker, and am constantly thinking about how I can better my blog. I guess it’s not necessarily a bad thing but I find I do obsess sometimes and that’s not healthy.
Me too! I don’t think its not a good thing, as long as it doesnt become an issue. But it means you care!
Blogging everywhere 🤣 I always get ideas at the most inconvenient times (never when infront of my laptop), like being out for a walk. Trying to write and walk and the same time is not easy! Blogging feels like a healthy addiction though 🤣
You’re so right, it does feel like a healthy addiction! Which is good! 🙂
This happens to me too! Right before I fall asleep and then I forget by the time I wake up!
I’m almost 7 and I love this!😄 have a good weekend, Olivia!😊💜
🤣Me too!
I hope you do too!
Haha, guilty! I’m addicted! Even in the middle of the work day I have WP open on the side at all times. 🙈
Love the post, Olivia!
Hehe me too!
Hahah guilty as charged! Me too!
Yeah, I’m most of these things and your post helps make me realise that sometimes we need to step back and get perspective. I’ve got double trouble because as a songwriter I’m always checking streams and video views, when really it is only about enjoying the process of creating a song in the first place. The same applies to a blog. Have a great and relaxing Christmas, and thanks for the post.
Oh goodness, I cant even imagine having more than one thing to check stats for! You’re right, it is good to take a step back and get some perspective on things!
I hope you do too Paul!
Uh everything ! I aced the exam teacher 🤡
Congrats! A* for you!
Yes! Now I agree to myself that I’m addicted to blogging! 🙂
Welcome to the club!
I am addicted to blogging and most bloggers in a positive poetic writing way!!
Good to hear!! 🙂
No doubt and beyond a reasonable! doubt!!
The test of a true addiction is if your life is being destroyed by it and you can’t stop even so. Hopefully we are all just loving being part of a community and that expands our lives so much it drives us to continue taking part…often.
I agree! If its having a negative affect then its for sure time to change something!
Just a couple 🤣🤣🤣🤣😳😳😳😳
Same🤣 maybe one or two (or seven)
Ha ha! 6/7 here. The only one I didn’t tick off was “You blog everywhere”. Maybe that’s because it’s 2020 and “everywhere” is my house. LOL Ask me again next year. I’ll probably be at 7/7.
Hahah thats so true! Maybe pre-2020 that would literally mean everything!
Uh oh! 😂😂😂 I guess I need to go to blogging rehab! 🤦🏼♀️
I’ll meet u there 😂😂😂
I ticked 5/7 😂🤣😂
I guess it could always be worse 😆😆
Buy your titles, I would say 4 out of 7, but by your descriptions, I’m more like 2 out of 7. I’ve never thought about blogging as an addiction. As an IT person who has to always be close to email and text in order to deal with issues, I keep my blog open since I have to have everything else open and ready to respond at a moment’s notice. I have solved problems for clients from the middle of nowhere, from the top of mountains, from France, from other states, when I was in the hospital for a month — wherever I am, I am rarely disconnected, and there are always problems to be solved. Therefore, I think of blogging as a service along with my job rather than an addiction. But you could be absolutely correct about being addicted to blogging and the plugged-in lifestyle since I’m never far from any of it. Although, I have no social media other than WordPress.
I think there is a fine balance. If you need to do it for your job, I wouldn’t say that its an addiction per say. But it could be if its your side hobby or side job! I guess there is alot of grey areas!
Jobs and hobbies tend to get all mixed together.
Sometimes yes!

◇ Personally I THINK!!! Believing The Myth of “Addiction” is a Message; if It No Longer Serves Let It Go such as the Obligations We Impose on OurSelves that Have Us THINKING!!! We ARE “Addicted” when it’s The Many, Many, Many Imposed Obligation of Others We ARE “Addicted” To

Yeah, tick off quite a lot. I will be half through a conversation and say this will make a great post and get strange looks from friends 😂😂😂
Hahaha I do the same thing! They must think were weirdos!
I think I may have a touch of addiction. The trouble Is I enjoy it, I enjoy the reading of others and it helps me improve my writing.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with having a blogging addiction! As long as it doesnt get in the way of other areas of your life!
Guilty as charged Olivia! Just today, someone spoke to me to take it easy with blogging. I don’t post everyday but I’m always doing something related to blogging every single day whether it’s engaging with other bloggers, researching topics or writing and it could be overwhelming on some days.
This is a call for me to take it more like an hobby.
Thanks Olivia!!!
Hahaha! I mean there are worse things to be addicted to! I think your blogging addiction is justified!
Ow thanks 😅
My goodness! 7/7.. a full-blown addict but I’m okay with that 🙂
Join the club!
Only 2/7 so I supposed I need to improve my level of addiction 😉 nice post!
Hahaha you be grateful you’re not!
LOL I guess I am NOT addicted to blogging!
Thats a good thing🤣
😂😂 so relatable…am always checking my posts or just wondering who read or liked it🤦🏽♀️
SAME! Its bad 🤣
This is true. But happy that it doesn’t give a negative day to me. 😊 I’d love to blog and to read and to comment whenever I am free. 💕💕
So funny, I recognized myself.
Loved your post 🙂
Not sure about any but this can be very tricky. Trying to be consistent in your postings and trying not be addicted.
I agree it really can. But you need to find that balance between both. It is achievable!
Balance, that’s the right word.
Thank you!
I’ve only started my blog yesterday and already feel addicted 😅
This is nice
Nice post Website
Lol, i do check my stats everyday even though i have been quiet sharing posts. Pinterest is so good. So true random ideas turn into blogs. The only thing I struggle with is short attention and lack of concentration. And forgetful brain, so i always have to write everything down. And learning to jump on the creative idea moments more quicker.
I love this! Hahaha
I think I was all 7 at one point. Decided to slow down a little and I’m probably down to 3 now. Used to carry my notebook around and scribble all sorts of blogging ideas.
Day one and I’m totally addicted
I think I’m definitely addicted to blogging, haha, but in all good ways. I just simply love it lots! It brings me so much happiness. 🙂 <3
Ellie xx
after reading the whole article I must say that I am addicted to blogging.
lol
