It’s 2021 and you’ve decided you want to make money from blogging, but you don’t know how. You’ve tried your hardest to reach out to brands but none of them have got back to you (this happens to all of us) and you’re about to give up. Then you see this post on your reader and its like a light at the end of the tunnel!
If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that I try to share as much information and guidance as I can when it comes to blogging. Now I’m no expert, but I have made my own fair share of blogging mistakes to at least steer you in the right direction instead of the wrong. I know how difficult it can be to make money from blogging. I know first hand.
But I think sometimes we often over complicate things and make it harder than it has to be. And we love to take shortcuts to get the results we want. Well my friend, there are no shortcuts here. Only hard work and dedication will get you to where you want to be. So for todays post, I want to outline some things you can do and show you how to make money blogging.
Now before we get started, I think it’s important to mention here that by doing these things money wont just magically start appearing in your bank account. You are to have already created and started to build an established audience. Don’t spend alot of time and energy trying to sell and make money if your reader numbers are low. Build your audience first, then start thinking about money.
SELL RELEVANT PRODUCTS OR SERVICES
So, you’ve built up your audience base. You have an idea what kind of services they would want, but what now? Well you tap into the consumer knowledge that you have. If you already know what kind of services and products your readers would like, don’t waste any time and go and start creating it.
The key thing you must remember when wanting to sell things to your readers is that it needs to be something that they want. You can put as much time and effort into a product as you want, but if it’s not what your audience wants, they won’t buy it. You should listen to your audience, even ask them outright if you need to. Only create something you know people will benefit from having.
MONETISE YOUR BLOG
I remember when I upgraded my free plan to the premium plan and how delighted I was at the thought of having ads on my site. WordAds were the first ads I ever added to my blog, and what a let down they were! I served thousands and thousands of ads and made pennies from it. It really was disappointing to see how little you could make from them unless you get thousands and thousands of views.
After I upgraded my plan to business I was then able to turn on Google Adsense, which is life changing! I am making probably more than triple of what I was on WordAds. I would say though, that traffic volume plays a part in gaining money from ads. You are basically relying on strangers to be enticed and click on the ads on your blog, if they don’t then you don’t get paid. So having a steady amount of traffic coming through your blog is essential.
CREATE MEMBERS ONLY CONTENT
This isn’t something I have tapped into yet but something I have seen other bloggers too. You can create paid for content which is only available if you (yes you guessed it) pay for it! The only downside of this is that the content really needs to be something special to convince people they need to spend their hard earned cash on content they could just google for free. So make sure its something that stands out and is different from the crowd.
SELL ONLINE COURSES
If you are particularly good at something or are a subject matter expert, then maybe look into selling online courses. Let’s say you’re particularly good at writing blog posts or email pitches to brands. You could sell a bundle number of classes to your readers and help them to become better at doing brand pitches.
I’ve seen other bloggers do this and make a pretty good amount of money from it. But again, it needs to be something that hasn’t already been done before, which is not easy! The market is already over saturated in many areas so you’ll have to get your thinking caps on for this one.
WORK WITH BRANDS
One of the most common way that bloggers make money is from working with brands. Whether is paid for or in exchange for products, blogs are the perfect place for brands to showcase their businesses. Get Blogged is a great website to use. Its a place you can register to and apply for work. Brands will go to Get Blogged and tell them what they’re looking for, and Get Blogged will post work and you can apply for it. Sometimes when you apply you aren’t always successful but its worth a try!
You can also email brands directly to ask if they want to work with you. Shoot your shot!
Do you want to make money blogging?
Have you made money blogging? If you have, how have you done it? What are some money blogging tips you can share with us?
I want to make a note here to remind you to not worry if you don’t make money from blogging straight away. It can take years for bloggers to start to see income from their blogs. Be patient, work hard and you will see results.

Awesome – the Get Blogged tip is great Oliva many thanks!
That opening paragraph spoke to me. AdWords and Adsense are only good if you have traffic in thousands per day otherwise I think they give false hope. True, one has to have an audience and give offer them a product that they need. Great points as always, I really hope this is the year i manage to monetise. It’s my second year, last year i focused on designing the blog, finding a niche, growing traffic etc. Do you think donations work for blogs?
You’re right, alot of factors go into whether or not you should upgrade your plan or activate ads on your site!
I haven’t ever done donations so can’t really say! If you put yourself in the readers shoes, you want to pay for something to get something out of it. I think selling a product or service might work better
Interesting perspective, putting oneself in the shoes of the reader first. I will always consider this first.
I always try to do that whenever im thinking of selling or creating any content!
This is very valuable advice, much appreciated
These are great tips! Google adsense has been such a gamechanger for my blog xx
Yes! Adsense is the best🙌🏼
This was very insiteful! Thank you! How many followers did you have when you decided to switch to a business plan? Xx
So glad! I think I was just about to hit 2k followers! xx
Thank you Lucie.
These are very helpful tips.
You’re welcome 🙂 My names Olivia by the way 🤗
And just because a brand contacts you, doesn’t mean you have to say yes. Like you pointed out does it fall in the interests and lifestyles of your audience. The product has to be useful and relevant.
And when connecting with brands, make sure you approach them professionally.
Yes, such great tips here! You’re right. You don’t have to accept every offer you get. Sometimes it can be detrimental to your brand if you accept something you know your audience wont like.
Very useful, thank you.
No problem! 🙂
This are great tips and thank you so much Olivia
Thanks!!! I have wordads but definitely not a huge money driver. Have you really noticed a significant difference in Adsense? Have you tried any other ads?
Yes I certainly have! Adsense is way better. I have tried media net ads too, but didn’t really gain much revenue from them!
Another great post Olivia, so useful and has got me thinking! 🤍
So glad you enjoyed it Fran💛
Thanks for the tips, I’d never heard of Get Blogged. I’m far from being ready to monetize, but I’m soaking up all the knowledge I can in preparation.
Its always good to get as much knowledge as possible even if you arent ready yet! At least you have it for when you are!
I keep watching Shark Tank all the time now too. Business is so foreign to me, I’m at least trying to slowly build that mindset. I have a good career, but I hate relying on others for a paycheck, and I find myself craving more creativity too. We’ll see what kind of lifestyle and business I can create someday…
Maybe for a while you can do both like I do! Then work your way up and quit that job!
Oh Wordads 🤦🏾♀️Such a letdown indeed! I remember feeling so frustrated from them that I preferred to have them off than on. At least that way I got more value out of my blog because it looked nicer than the ads they basically paid nothing for but displayed so proudly 😅 I have to say that if you had 1 million views or so, wordads wouldn’t be as terrible… but Adsense still pays much more!
Imagine having 1 million views 😅 But then imagine the revenue from Adsense with 1million views. Wowza!
This is really interesting!! I honestly have never thought about monetising my blog but if I do then this will be a great reference! I just found your blog and I love it, keep on going! 😀
Yay thanks so much Zainab 🙂 Any questions please let me know!
You always have some of the best advice💟💟
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the awesome tips! Looking forward to the Blogging strategy challenge. Happy new year!🙂

Thanks so much!☺️
I love how you write.
Thanks so much!
Great tips as always! Thanks for sharing!
I’ve gotta get to work on building my traffic it looks like. Hard work 😅
I think with premium plan I am in trap of wordads..though my daily views are not in thousands.. but they are definitely increasing..i am planning to upgrade my plan to business..I just wanted to touch 1000 views per day on regular basis
I would love to make money blogging, but it’s really only one step in the big picture of my blogging dream. Hopefully it’ll come but I know I have other steps to accomplish first.
great article. im finding it very difficult to get google adsence on my site, I have tried two time to no prevail. im not sure what im doing wrong. it keeps telling me to fix some things on my site… I just don’t know what im meant to be fixing. xx
Thanks for reading! I’m not sure either I’m afraid. You’d need to contact Google and ask them directly!
I agree. Better to contact Google, although that may take a while I have to admit. Allow me to add my 5 cents, if memory serves me right. I am pretty sure you also need a certain amount of traffic each month to be considered.
I’m not actually sure on the approval process, but I believe thats what I have heard too. Although, I’m not sure the level of traffic you need!
I am under correction, but to the best of my knowledge I think it is around 10K visitors per month minimum requirement.
Thanks for the tips. I agree traffic volume is a big factor. I’m still learning and working towards getting more traffic on my blog.
I can relate. As a fellow blogger, I think one never really stop researching for new traffic methods. There are so many and there is no “one size fits all” scenario, unfortunately. But that is what makes the journey interesting, right?
What a great read! Thanks for taking the time to write this!
Outstanding post Olivia, well done! And thanks for sharing with us, appreciate your hard work. I sell affiliate products through in post and in page banners. But I have also turned my blogging knowledge into profit by packaging it as an eBook and then publish with both BookRix (Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, Kobo, Barnes & Noble etc.) and on Clickbank.
This sounds wonderful! Good luck with it all 🙂
Thank you so much for the kind words. Wishing you prosperity and growth.
i’ve been using wordads cos that’s what wpress suggested. i’m not sure how much is considered normal, with the amount of view i have. like would it be normal to get paid with $5 or less a month when u had 1k views per day? or should i get paid more? the first year of wordads were okay for me. i think. but in recent two years, it was definitely a let down. i tried to put up with it and stop looking. but reading your post today makes me think twice..
Making online web apps also is an great way of passive income.Web apps will get a huge traffic very fast.
Passive Move Online Academy
Some nice ideas here. It’s so difficult when some bloggers put their all into unique and original content and put it out there for free but get little in return. I believe it’s good that Google gave bloggers the opportunity to monetize their blogs with Adsense. The monetary reward will certainly give bloggers the motivation to continue blogging.
Thanks for sharing wonderful information.
