Being a lifestyle blogger is really one of the best titles to have. Lifestyle bloggers really dominate the world of blogging, with it being one of the biggest niches of writers in the blogging world. With a great title comes great responsibility. Being a lifestyle blogger is one of the best things ever, but it can be really hard at times. And I am sure that other bloggers in other niches feel this too, this isn’t just for Lifestyle bloggers.
Committing to anything is a big deal. And when I started blogging I committed to do this and by making that commitment it means that I have to accept everything that comes with being a Lifestyle blogger. If you’re on the outside wondering what being a Lifestyle blogger is really like I want to be as transparent and honest as I can. I think it’s important we share the good and the bad side of blogging. Being authentic is really important.
IT CAN BE REALLY TOUGH
Not everyday being a lifestyle blogger is rainbows and fairies. It can be really tough, especially when real life takes over. Sometimes I don’t feel like blogging, but I know that being consistent in my blogging schedule really helps in driving traffic to my site. I know there are so many other things in life that are tough, and blogging doesn’t even compare to some struggles people go through. But I think acknowledging and sharing that even something thats your hobby and that you enjoy can be hard, is important to share.
Turning your hobby into a business can suck the fun out of it. And I know some bloggers don’t ever turn their blogs into businesses, and thats okay. But from my experience, it can get really tough to still make blogging and writing fun when its a business too.

THE LIFESTYLE NICHE IS SATURATED
Being in a niche of lifestyle blogging, you will come to realise how saturated it is. There are so many millions of lifestyle bloggers in the world, that it’s become so hard to stand out from everybody else. It’s almost impossible to create content that somebody else hasn’t already done. I bet even this post I am writing now has been done a thousand times. Don’t let that discourage you though, remember that people read your content and visit your site because of the person behind the words.
Coming up with new and fresh content can be hard at times, and I know alot of other bloggers in other niches feel like this too. There is always a way to make your content yours. Speak about your own personal experiences, nobody else can take those away from you. And they are individual.

YOU WILL DEAL WITH IMITATION
I have spoken about this before on my blog, but not recently. I think at some point we all become victim of plagiarism. And honestly. when I first started blogging I didn’t know better and tried to be just like all the other successful lifestyle bloggers I saw. I learnt a lesson from it and never did it again. But one thing you should be prepared for is that people will probably copy you. They will see you doing well and think they can steal your work and it will magically make them popular too.
One of the biggest things is that your work is popular and enjoyed because of you. Not the words on the screen. But for the person who typed it.

YOU SPEND ALOT OF YOUR TIME PROMOTING
I swear if somebody told me that most of my time as a lifestyle blogger would be promoting my content and not writing I wouldn’t have believed them. You’d think being a lifestyle blogger meant that you write alot. But actually writing is just a small part of it. 30% of my time is spent writing, and the rest is promoting, engaging with readers and doing all of the admin work behind the scenes.
Although writing is what mostly what we do this for, making sure to spend time with our audiences is so important. Promotion and selling yourself is just as important as the content you post. It’s also probably the most time consuming aswell.

IT’S THE MOST REWARDING THING I HAVE EVER DONE
I came into blogging with no expectations. I didn’t know where this site would take me, and never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would get to where I am now. Being able to connect with so many amazing people around the world is the biggest blessing. Being able to post content and read comments about how I have helped others is honestly life changing. I would go through the stress of running a blog ten times over if it meant I helped somebody going through a hard time.
And thats what blogging for me is about. Being a lifestyle blogger is much more than just posting my monthly favourites. It’s about making real life connections with other likeminded people. It’s about helping others though tough times by showing them you’ve been through it too. Being relatable to my audience is something I will always strive to do. Not only sharing the wins in life but the fails too. It’s such a reassuring thing to read content from real people, dealing with real life situations. And thats why I love being a lifestyle blogger.

Do you find it hard being a lifestyle blogger? What are the challenges you face? What are some of the highlights you face too?
Honestly it’s such a privilege to be able to do what I do on this blog. There isn’t a day where I take it for granted. And if you’re in the same position as me, enjoy it for what it is. Try to ignore the stresses you may face with your blog and everything that comes with it. And just enjoy it for the now.

I loved this! Blogging in general is so saturated now, standing out is so difficult and it’s even more difficult to create content that’s never been done!
However, there are ways to get be creative and make things uniquely yours.
It’s also crazy how much time is spent promoting, engaging, constantly fixing your blog and doing admin work!
The journey is amazing but there are definitely some unexpected truths that come with it.
You’re right, it’s definitely harder to stand out for sure. 😩
I love being a blogger, but content doesn’t always come easy. When life brings prolonged interruptions, I often feel guilty for not posting. It’s always there in the back of my mind. However, I also love that I can connect with people from all over the world. I may not hear back as much as I would like, but I do continually hope that my words help or encourage someone somewhere.
You have been a help and encouragement to me, just FYI. A lot of your posts have helped me in my own blogging journey!
I agree about the saturation thing with being a lifestyle blogger, it’s pretty hard to stand out as it’s such a popular blogging niche! A great post! x

I love this post and relate to a lot of it! I definitely struggle with motivation and consistent posting and promoting is its own beast 😅
I have to emphasize and agree with you Ms Blake that blogging is a wonderful thing to do in the writing industry because with blogs you inspire and share your thoughts with others globally
I also don’t regret being a Blogger and here is why: My country Eswatini/Swaziland nominated me for Blogger of the year under the SOCIAL MEDIA AWARDS!

I’m so happy with what I’m achieving as a blogger and I’m crossing fingers I get more awards😁
Feeling this! As a fellow lifestyle blogger I’ve flitted around different niches and in all honesty I don’t know where my home is. It’s such a massive category that, no matter what post I write, someone has probably done it already! Truthfully though, I don’t have a specific niche so I’m just going with the flow for now.
Completely agree though that when you’re on top of things, it’s so rewarding. I’m amazed at what you’ve been able to achieve so far (not because you wouldn’t have been able to) but because you’ve just thrown everything into it! You should be very proud 🙂
What a great post! Thank you so much for sharing! As a fairly new lifestyle blogger, it was nice to read an honest portrayal of what lifestyle blogging can entail. I hope to be as authentic as I possibly can in my own posts, as I feel – and agree with you – it is a very important factor. Again, thanks for sharing! ^_^ | #RecommendReads
I like being a blogger, but sometimes I feel that there are not many people that actually come to read your blog. It discourages me. can you suggest how can I increase my followers or people who view my blog?
