Smart Ways to Improve Skin Texture

One of the most visible signs of ageing you get is your skin. Your skin will show your life on it more than you might want it to at times, and the kid you have in your 20s naturally won’t be the skin you live with in your 40s, 50s and beyon, from sagging and wrinkling skin, age spots, dry patches and changes to texture and the presence of dull, lacklustre skin — all visible signs of aging.

But just because this is something you should expect, it doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do, especially if you’re fighting the appearance of dull skin that needs a bit of a pick-me-up to start glowing once more.

Let’s take a look at how to improve skin texture so your skin gets a glow up from dull to fresh at any age.

This is a contributed post.

CLEANSE EVERY DAY

Gentle, not harsh, cleansing is the best way to give your skin what it needs to look healthy and feel good. Find the right cleanser for your skin — be it to add moisture, remove excess oil build up, combat patchy skin or simply to nourish it. Avoid harsh cleaners or scrubs for daily use and stick to products that care and cleanse gently and remove any traces of makeup, sunscreen and dirt from the day.

AVOID HOT WATER

Hot water can be incredibly bad for skin — some types more than others. Really, you want to wash your face with warm water, not hot, to avoid stripping it of its natural oils. This can increase dryness and irritation, not to mention increased redness, which isn’t a look anyone is going for.

Paired with a gentle skin-suitable cleanser, warm water is preferable and delivers what your skin needs without increasing damage.

STAY HYDRATED

What you eat and what your skin is exposed to influences the health and texture of your skin. And as it’s the body’s biggest organ, you need to treat it how you would any other body part. This means getting adequate hydration — at least 2 litres of water per day is recommended. But simply trying to drink more water, reduce caffeine intake and include foods higher in water content can be beneficial and play a part in reducing dullness and giving your skin its vitality back.

APPROPRIATE TREATMENTS

There are many different skin treatments on the market, and finding one that delivers the results you need and delivers huge benefits is key. For example, microneedling can help to improve skin texture, reduce fine lines and boost your skin’s glow and health with regular treatments.

Other treatments can include:

  • Chemical peels
  • Laser therapy
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Profhilo

AT HOME TREATMENTS

Giving your skin what it needs at home through different products and treatments can be a perfect way to boost your skin care routine to deliver healthy, youthful-looking skin.

Look for products containing retinol, vitamin C or AHAs, for example, all powerful agents to boost complexion. While hyaluronic acid delivers deep hydration, making it ideal for those struggling with dry skin.

None of these products, however, on their own, is a miracle cure, and all need to be utilised together for the perfect skincare routine to help you banish dull skin so you look and feel good every day.
