My Work From Home Routine

Since Coronavirus hit the UK, my work place made the decision that all of their staff were to work at home for the foreseeable future. There still aren’t any plans in place yet for us to go back either, which I’m quite glad about.

So because I’m at home all day everyday working, I thought I would do a Work from home routine post. I’ve gotten into quite a good routine now that I tend to stick to everyday, so why not share what my routine looks like!

8:00am – 8:30am – Wake Up and Make Up

I tend to wake up at the same time everyday, and since I’ve had to work from home its between 8:00-8:30am. This is such an essential time for me because its what sets me up for a good day.As soon as I wake up I turn on my work computer and sign into my email and Skype. Once thats loading I then go about getting myself ready for the day, the usual bathroom routine and then sitting down to do my hair and makeup.

I make sure I do my hair and makeup everyday, it has helped me so much in lockdown to keep my normal routine. And it helps make me feel as though I’d ready for the day.

9:00am – 12:00pm

Once I’m ready I head back to my desk and me and my work team every morning do a video call. We just chat and see how everybody is. Its really nice and has helped so much to make things feel “normal”. Its lovely to see friendly, familiar faces every morning.

Work then starts, it varies depending on what’s coming in that week. It can be anything between data analysis or creating reports. I work in a Customer Insight team, so we have various surveys and customer panels we run. We use the data collected to create reports or interactive data dashboards.

12:00pm – 1:00pm – Lunch Time!

Once I have worked for a few hours I then have my lunch break for 30 minutes between 12pm – 12:30pm. I usually go downstairs and get away from my desk for that time, so I can switch off for a bit and stretch my legs. I like to watch Youtube videos or Netflix in this time whilst I eat, again another thing I do to switch my brain from work to chill mode.

1:00pm – 2:30pm

After lunch is usually when I feel the least amount of productive. In this time I put in my headphones and listen to music all afternoon. This really helps to kick start my motivation again. I think after eating its so tiring having to come back to do more work, it’s almost like the day should be over. Does anybody else feel like that?

I then go onto doing more work, I have some reports that I need to create and I have deadlines for those. It’s hard to say exactly the things I do everyday as it varies so much. Some days are quieter than others.

2:30pm – 4:30pm – Home Stretch

On the final stretch of the day I take a short break to stretch my legs and go to see my dog, because naturally I miss her even though she’s downstairs haha. She comes and joins me some afternoons and takes a snooze on my bed (as pictured below). Work finishes between 4:00pm 4:30pm. Usually after work I either go for a walk, do my usual weekly chores like clean the bathroom or I chill out and write blog posts!

My Dog Honey

It’s not an exciting routine but it’s real. It was really hard at the beginning of lockdown to adjust to working at home everyday. Now things are starting to open up more I think its gotten a lot easier. Thankful to have a job that I can do from home where I’m safe.

      1. Lol fair, but at 25 (4 years ago) I was working an eleven to twelve hour day (investment banking) so I do think it all falls back to being lucky to have a flexible job! I’m still jealous btw 😛

      2. Wow! I take my hat off to those that work extra long hours. Even when i worked in retail they were only 8-9 hour days!
You gotta do what you gotta do to make that money though!
If it makes u feel better i really do appreciate and am so thankful for work hours that are around me and my life! I dont ever take it for granted☺️

  1. I have tried all sorts of work from home schemes and have never found one where I can make some money. I have found Side Hustles that work like cleaning cars, Home shopping, Baby sitting.
Is this the same thing ? Or am I mistaken ? Chris Smith.
