How the People You Surround Yourself With Can Affect Your Life

There are a couple of ways the title of this post could be interpreted. One being how the people in your life can have a positive effect on you, and the second being how the people in your life can have a negative effect on you. Either way, those people you surround yourself with will have an impact on who you are as a person.

As I have gotten older, its more and more important to me that I surround myself with good quality people. When I was younger it was all about how popular you are, how many friends I you had. And you slowly realise thats not important. The saying “Quality over quantity” comes in perfectly here. I’d rather have a few great friends than a bunch of mediocre ones.

We Become Those We Surround Ourselves With

Whether you believe it or not, you eventually become those you surround yourself with. If you surround yourself with bad people, who make questionable decisions. You will in turn, form into that type of person if you aren’t careful. Its happened to me before, and I was that person that insisted that it would never happen to.

Find people you can learn and grow from. Friendships should build you up and make you stronger and help you to grow as a person. The same with relationships too.

I’m so thankful for new and old friendships. Even for the ones I don’t speak with anymore. People come into our lives for a purpose. Even if it’s only for a small season in life, we can learn from each other.

Do you struggle with finding good people to have in your life? What are your friendships like?

A little bit of a different post for me, but something that was on my heart. I hope you consider yourself and your own growth when having relationships and friendships with people. Are they helping you grow into a better person? Are they looking out for you and your best interests? Those are the questions we should be asking ourselves.

See you in the next one, Olivia x

  1. I really loved reading this post and yes this is extremely true. This sometimes happen to me as well. I sometimes struggle a lot with finding good people with whom i can be friends with. And yes we should pay attention to these things that like are they helping us to grow into a better person or no? Anyways great post. 😊

    1. I agree. Friendships or relationships should help us to grow into better people. For sure! I hope you can find people like that. It is hard. I have a only a few friends that i can count on. But as i said in the post, a few great friends are all we need in life!
      Thank you 😊

  2. I totally agree with this. I used to think the phrase “show me your friends and I will show you your future” was outdated but it’s so true. Surrounding yourself with people are likeminded and positive, hardworking and passionate will have such a god influence on you. I’m blessed to have friends like that around me.

    1. I love that saying, I have heard it a few times before! It’s so true.
Its taken me a while to find a close knit, good friendship group but I am also so thankful and blessed that I too have those positive people around me.

  3. I totally agree with this! Having graduated from university and starting a new chapter in my life with my graduate job and the working world, I want to only keep and surround myself with friends that will give me positive energy, and ones that will help me become the best version of myself! (and vise versa of course!).

    1. I 100% agree. I think its the same for people in your work place too! It’s important to have those good friendships there too. Because you probably spend more time with them than your friends outside of work!

  4. Great post Olivia 😊 it’s great to see people’s loved ones. I grew up all over the world so finding people who stay in my life is a bit hard… I have 3 besties I’d die for though!

    1. Thank you Shelly :D!
Wow, I bet it was difficult for you . I have friends who live overseas from me ( I live in England, they live in the US) and its hard at times to keep up with them, but you make it work for good people!

      1. Yeah it’s hectic! We’ve missed each other so many times and it almost feels as though I have imaginary friends lol and if by making it work you mean keeping in touch, then yes. Otherwise, I find it to be really sucky ☹️

      2. Yes!! I totally get that. It’s like you have all these friends but they’re not really there. That’s what it feels like to me sometimes too. It is sucky, agreed. But im so thankful for the friendships i do have, and i wouldn’t change it for anything. Im
Hoping to do a post on long distant friendships soon!

  5. This is absolutely true! I sometimes look around and find so many people around me but when I actually start counting who will be there for me when I need them, I barely get someone. You spoke what many of us feel in this phase of life. I absolutely loved reading this ❤️

    1. It’s hard coming to that realisation sometimes isn’t it. Having good quality, reliable people around you is so important!

Even though beast’s beauty (talking about myself 😉….coz some of your posts are beauty related) could be hidden….I’m somehow leaning to your blog….you write from your heart….that’s what I sense & that’s making me to follow your blog….I’m sure you’ll keep writing such great posts 😊

    1. Wow, Navin. Thank you so much for your kind words.
I love how blogging can bring people together like this, even though some of my posts aren’t the usual content you would enjoy. I am steering away from less beauty and more reality posts, so this could work in your favour!
Again, I appreciate how sweet you are and the kind things you have said. Im looking forward to having you on this journey with me and similarly me being on your journey with you.
      Blessings to you 💖
