Why is My Blog Not Growing? A Kick Start Guide

If you’re a blogger, I’m sure you’ve asked yourself several times by now why is my blog not growing? What am I doing wrong? Why do so many other bloggers seem to be doing better than me? Honestly, we have all been there at some point. It can be a disheartening feeling. Imposter syndrome as a blogger is a very real thing.

I remember when I first started blogging, I struggled in the beginning at what strategy to follow. I constantly compared my writing to others and immediately felt inferior to other bloggers. This is your reminder though that this is just in your head. You create these obstacles alot of the time and the comparisons are from you. It can be so discouraging when you don’t see your blog taking off like you expected and that can leave you asking why is my blog not growing?

For todays post I wanted to share some guidance on how to kick start your blog again. This advice is what I follow whenever I find my own blog not growing anymore. Please remember that there is not just one approach when it comes to blogging. So something that works for me might not work for you.

Olivia, why is my blog not growing? What can I do?

RE-THINK YOUR BLOGGING SCHEDULE

One of the main things I always tell bloggers is to make sure they implement a schedule from the get go. I put alot of the growth and success of my blog down to the fact that I made sure I had a set schedule when I first started posting. If you’re not familiar with my blogging journey, I posted almost daily for the first few months of blogging. It sounds like alot, and when I look back I realise it was. But it didn’t feel like it. I loved posting so often and knew that getting my content and name out there would help me and it did.

If you post randomly and don’t stick to a schedule, it might be why your blog isn’t growing. Think about all of the content on the internet right now. You have to keep up if you want to be noticed. Not posting often or posting here, there and everywhere really won’t help your site to grow.

Did you know that I created a 30 day blogging schedule? The schedule has a whole timetable is guided with information about what you should be doing on each day of the week. So many people have purchased and I’ve had such great feedback from it. Its available to buy now!

CREATE CONTENT THAT INSPIRES YOU

As a blogger I think sometimes our wires can get crossed. We want to post content that we love, but we also have to be mindful that the content needs to be what our readers love also. Sometimes it’s easy to fall into the trap of only posting what you know the reader wants. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but when you create content there needs to be an element of enjoyment for you too. There needs to be a line between you posting what you want, but also making sure its what your readers enjoy.

I often get people asking me how you balance both and sometimes its hard. I’ve written posts before that I was sure would be successful and they have been one of my lowest performing posts. It’s hard to know exactly what your audience wants sometimes.

If you’re not posting authentic content that inspires you, your readers will know. I always know when a blogger posted something they don’t really enjoy. Theres a difference in their writing.

LEARN ABOUT YOUR AUDIENCE

Any good writer will take the time to learn about their audience. After all they are the ones who will reader and engage with your content. Failing to learn about your audience will mean that you post content they don’t enjoy, which will mean they’re less likely to interact with what you post. Your aim should be, to become a relatable blogger. This goes back to there being a fine line between posting what you want and what your audience enjoy. Do you see how hard it can be?

Looking into your analytics and stats of your website will help you better understand your readers. Seeing their geographical locations and their age ranges is a good starting point to figure out who your audience is. Look at the trends of your posts, which ones perform better than others? The information is right under your nose sometimes.

  1. Great post, Personally I find it hard to stay motivated to spend a certain amount of time blogging all of the time, as there are so many other things which I could be doing, plus I am so good at procrastinating. But I am going to dedicate a certain amount of time each week to the blog after new year, to make sure I don’t slip back. Hope that you had a good Christmas.

  2. Hi Olivia, I struggle to stick to a schedule sometimes as I find it hard to balance my family life and blogging. I try to remind myself that I am only human and can only do what I can do. I put in as much time to my blog as I can and it will take as long as it takes.

I am so on board with writing things you are passionate about or writing about things you want to learn more about and educating yourself as well as your audience. This is am awesome read with some great information and I am highly appreciative that you took the time to help out others, like myself. Xo!

  5. Tbh I’ve tried the above and come to the conclusion that even after doing everything right, you have to accept that growth will be different for different people.
