Let’s Talk About Why We Blog

One thing you’ve probably noticed I do every now and then on my blog is creating conversation style posts, which is why you see posts such as my ‘Today I am Thankful For‘ post a few weeks ago.

It’s such a great thing to have conversations with people online, it’s not only great to make friends and connections but its great to talk to people you normally wouldn’t be able to. I have made so many blogger friends who live thousands and thousands of miles away from me, and none of that would have been possible without my blog & technology of course.

We all blog for various different reasons, some for hobbies, some for money, some just because. I thought for this weeks topic conversation we could all discuss our reasons why we blog. I’m sure all of our reasons vary and I cant wait to see what the responses are. I’ll start out by talking about why I blog and then in the comments I’d love to see your responses, no matter what it is.

WHY I BLOG

I have shared my blogging journey before, but to sum it up I started this blog in 2015 and it was previously called Diadem of Beauty. I only posted beauty related things such as hair, skincare and makeup. My blog ran for about a year just for fun and then stopped in 2016. It wasn’t until July of 2020 that I decided to bring back my blog and completely re-brand it. I never thought that my blog would be what it is today.

Back then I blogged because I loved everything beauty, and I still do. I just knew that when I decided to re-brand I needed to re-think the content I was creating too. I knew that sticking within just beauty posts meant I was excluding quite alot of readers who don’t enjoy that kind of content. Now I blog because I want to make a difference in this world, I want people to be able to come to my blog for help and advice if they are struggling mentally, or if they just need a confidence boost.

I also blog because I love writing and creating content for the internet. If any of you follow me on Instagram then you see my doodles and digital art almost everyday. I really enjoy sharing creations with others.

Now is your turn to share with us why you decided to push that button and start your blogging journey. Share with us in the comments!

I really love creating these types of posts, and love hearing your guys perspectives on different things. So please share your reasons with us!

  1. I blog because I don’t really have a safe place to fully self express myself. So it is to overcome all those restrictions around self expression. Gotta keep that throat chakra moving lol. It’s therapeutic as fuck. And I also am a new coach and wana grow my business!

  2. Blogging? Yes its fascinating. I started to give myself something to do in Lockdown. Also I wanted to distil some of what I had learned working as a teacher of Literature. That developed into me learning further from my blogging. All the best in your journey!

  3. I started my blog because my publisher said it would help to sell my debut novel back in 2011… the blog has since evolved into a lifestyle site for my adventures in mothering and magic, and I started a second blog purely for my books. I love writing, and I love interacting with different people all over the world! 🙂 https://spookymrsgreen.com/

  4. I love food. I love seeing people lead healthy lives and making excellent food choices. I started blogging in order to reach a wider audience with the message of “you are what you eat”. I publish monthly and so far it has been a beautiful experience. I love every bit of it as it has helped me to become more confident in my writing ability and I have grown and learnt a lot regarding food and health as I have to always do a lot of reading and research.

  5. I love to write and express myself. I believe social media has put us in a space where we are taught to broadcast the good moments and hide the bad ones . With blogging I feel I can express anything without judgement. The blogging community is so friendly. I met so many like minded people.

  6. Hi Olivia,

Great post! I’m just two weeks into my blog. Still figuring things out, but I started because I feel like with 2020, we’ve all changed and adapted to our new way of life and for myself, I wanted to share my experience of the transition. Provide a safe place to discuss family, abuse, fashion and in general, life as a woman/mother. It thrives from my previous experiences. I can’t seem to find just one niche. I’m excited though and hope it goes well.

  7. I started my blog because it was a great way for me to remember my memories of traveling. With everything going on I also hope to bring some wanderlust to others and help them to explore locally!

  8. I blog to just write and share my thoughts and opinions on a certain topic. It always feels good to have our own opinion on a typical thought. And after sharing our thoughts, i just love to hear from all the fellow awesome bloggers. All of us have different views on the same topic. The communication thing is really great! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  9. I started blogging because I didn’t know what it was. I was told you can make money and this and that. But if it is a way to make money it’s not like a job you go to work and get paid for the hours you put in. You really have to enjoy socialization and writing and creating. And I have found now that I researched that I like to write, I like poetry that I make. I like to make product reviews. I have not made any money in just found something I like. And I research and do my beat to self teach and move forward. I hope one day I can make it my job.

  10. I started my blog securitydog56.Wordpress.com as a way to help promote my two books on Amazon.
I am also now working toward a blog about my wood working (mostly palletwood).
I am also entertaining starting to do public speaking about terrorism and travel safety due to my background as retired military and former federal employee. I am looking to do this both in person and possibly in a virtual Skype / zoom type of broadcast. Working to make connections to make that happen.
Working on setting up my second blog, researching this.
I think that covers the basics.

  11. Hi Olivia, great idea… In my teens I was an avid magazine reader. I liked journaling and moved into social media with ease. Yet I’d been yearning to write about the stories and adventures that I’ve lived for others to enjoy and here I am a few months in and a handful of posts published. Loving it and like my mentor use to tell me, “careful what you ask for”. Don’t know where my creative juices will take me to as I learn the blogger/influencer lingo but I’m in and accept the challenge! Any tips are humbly welcome! Keep on writing & sharing!

  12. Thank you for your post!
I recently joined the WordPress community, after a decision I took during spring this year when I realized that I have so many things that I want to share, starting with my friends, and reaching ‘the end of the world’. And I feel so grateful for actually reaching a lot of people from around the world. It’s amazing! (I love watching the map to see where my readers are from! )

So I started to collect thoughts the entire summer, on Faith, Nature, Stories, Music, Life, Love, and even some political points of view.

And I’m still writing them even now, along with all the other ideas, because I believe we should think more, and when we decide it’s worth sharing, that it might mean something to someone, in a good way, just share it with each other and learn more and be better.

  13. I blog my work to get the feel of my work. To test. I will publish early next year. I also like to read and learn. I feel, we must explore poetry, story and real life to understand life. I have befriended many people and I like to share other writers work. Maybe help them find more readers.

  14. Yes, it’s underestimated! To be fair some make it seem very easy. But with everything you will learn in life you get better with practice. Once you are putting in the proper effort then will it be easier for people once they learn how. The biggest demotivator is not knowing what I’m doing. Also, I don’t or can’t pay anyone for help, so I must self motivate, research, implement, and repeat.
Now that I have tried to blog, I want to do more. I want to educate myself and be a successful.

  15. I started blogging maybe a month or two ago. I’m so new to it. I’m intimidated by everyone’s awesome pages. So much creativity put into it. I decided to start blogging because I wanted to capture the many thoughts in my mind to better cope with my anxiety. I also want to learn if I have decent writing skills and work on improving it. Third reason is to connect with others!

  16. I started my blog as I had a lot of internal thoughts about things going on, especially with a crazy year like 2020. I wanted to create a shared community space even in lockdown and try and inspire others to adopt better habits for their lives. As someone who has felt bad at times and overcome it, I thought a blog is the best place to try and help people too! I’m still a new blog but loving it so far! 😬

  17. I am seeking divine perspective – wanting to see things the way God sees them. When I get a glimpse at the truth about something – as opposed to the flawed way the world sees it – I want to share that insight with as many people as possible, especially if that revelation came from some long and/or hard experiences. I’d like to think I’m sparing someone else the pain of learning that lesson the hard way, and doing my part to get us all where we need to be, living the lives we were created for.

  18. I’m new to blogging but I wish I would’ve started blogging early on in my life. I’m starting a blog now just to do research and share what I learned to the public. If I start to make money from it, cool but if I don’t I’m also cool with that. 🤷🏾‍♂️
