Let’s Talk About Why We Blog

One thing you’ve probably noticed I do every now and then on my blog is creating conversation style posts, which is why you see posts such as my ‘Today I am Thankful For‘ post a few weeks ago.

It’s such a great thing to have conversations with people online, it’s not only great to make friends and connections but its great to talk to people you normally wouldn’t be able to. I have made so many blogger friends who live thousands and thousands of miles away from me, and none of that would have been possible without my blog & technology of course.

We all blog for various different reasons, some for hobbies, some for money, some just because. I thought for this weeks topic conversation we could all discuss our reasons why we blog. I’m sure all of our reasons vary and I cant wait to see what the responses are. I’ll start out by talking about why I blog and then in the comments I’d love to see your responses, no matter what it is.

WHY I BLOG

I have shared my blogging journey before, but to sum it up I started this blog in 2015 and it was previously called Diadem of Beauty. I only posted beauty related things such as hair, skincare and makeup. My blog ran for about a year just for fun and then stopped in 2016. It wasn’t until July of 2020 that I decided to bring back my blog and completely re-brand it. I never thought that my blog would be what it is today.

Back then I blogged because I loved everything beauty, and I still do. I just knew that when I decided to re-brand I needed to re-think the content I was creating too. I knew that sticking within just beauty posts meant I was excluding quite alot of readers who don’t enjoy that kind of content. Now I blog because I want to make a difference in this world, I want people to be able to come to my blog for help and advice if they are struggling mentally, or if they just need a confidence boost.

I also blog because I love writing and creating content for the internet. If any of you follow me on Instagram then you see my doodles and digital art almost everyday. I really enjoy sharing creations with others.

Now is your turn to share with us why you decided to push that button and start your blogging journey. Share with us in the comments!

I really love creating these types of posts, and love hearing your guys perspectives on different things. So please share your reasons with us!

      1. I write not to necessarily engage with others although it is nevertheless something of a reward to have someone appreciate what I’ve on occasion, written. The thumbs up fixation never really appealed to me, nor indeed has the like and share forms of engagement that are all to prevalent on many of these and social media platforms. I’m way to old to feel any sense of security they I’m sure they do provide, I’m the wrong era perhaps.

When someone encouraged me to download this particular App, they told me that it was free and that I could express myself. I scribble an awful lot and ramble incoherent gobbledegook to occupy my mind. It’s been an extraordinary adventure and one I now wish that I found, much earlier.

  1. I blog for fun! I’ve always craved to have a platform for writing my thoughts and ideas down for others to (hopefully) enjoy, but it’s mainly for me – I get so much gratification over actually having such a creative space that’s completely my own. I hope to inspire others in many different ways with the different kinds of content I blog about x

      1. Ms. Olivia, and you are doll baby innovative beautiful, a lady of style, diction, class, and talent, I respect you highly, glad the God put us on the same creative path to meet and greet each other in the literary arena, an era where writers are creating original content and not being copycats and paraphrasing works of the great writers of the past and showing the world that God didn’t stop giving talent out to the greats before us, but God endowed present writers with the gift to write equal to the greats of old and some greater talent than even William Shakespeare, Khalil Gibran, Rumi, and Maya Angelou, and I respect the greats but I don’t worship them but God, and I do not think any of the greatsare better than I and for any writer to do so is akin to elavate form over substance!

    Then it became a hobby
Then it became a way to communicate my views (intentionally)
Then it has now become a place to trace my evolution as I journey through life and my faith

  7. Hi Olivia, I like the concept of this post. I have just been reminded of my first ever blog on my site. this is because a new follower read it and commented, which, in turn, made me read it again (for the first time since I wrote it, two years ago). The blog post is called “The Beginning”, which is accurate, though not particularly original, haha. In the post I outline who I am and why I began the blog. However, I’ll summarise the content here and update to the current day.

Primarily l began the WordPress site in order to release the multitude of thoughts, ideas and observations that constantly roamed around in my head, and they still do.
I have always felt that I don’t make enough of my creative streak, yet others have told me I should do in the past.

I have done many things during my 64 years on the planet. In more recent decades though, my focus has been on tuition, firstly with art, then with English language. I love both receiving, and giving, knowledge. As a younger man I had mentors in my life and, I like to think, that through life experience I can offer my own mentoring to others, if they wish to receive it.

The blog began as a catharsis to feel like I was doing something positive with my creative writing, which spans just about anything you can imagine: true life experiences, observations, fact, fiction and even some dubious poetry (I mean it’s dubious if I can call it poetry).

At first I wrote purely for myself, almost like a diary of bits and pieces. Then a couple of friends asked to be able to have a look. That’s how I left it for the most part, but then I decided to see if I could get a wider audience. As you’ll see, this was quite a recent move and I now have a handful of ‘followers’, which hopefully will grow over time.

The benefit of taking this action is I now find myself talking to people like yourself and, I echo your thoughts from your post. To meet “virtually’ other people from far and near is so rewarding, particularly in my personal situation. I live in a comparatively remote area of Spain, on top of a mountain, so my opportunity for intelligent conversation is limited, outside of my family.

I never realised at the outset the avenues that sharing with other bloggers would open up for me. I hope that there are more blogs like yours where I can exchange views, as well as just presenting my work.

Have a great day, I’ll keep watching with interest.

    1. I want to first off thank you for how much detail you provided here and that little bit of insight into your life.

I think alot of people start their blogs off in a similar fashion and then it slowly, naturally evolves into something bigger. The beauty of blogging is that it enables us to make those connections, and like you said, you live in a remote area. When would you get the chance to share and connect with someone from the UK (me)? The power of blogging and the internet!

What is your blog link? I’d love to check out your work. The link on your profile doesnt seem to be working which is why I’m asking for it!

      1. Hi Olivia, You’re not the first to say my link doesn’t work. I’ve asked for help from WordPress consultants and they all say there’s nothing wrong, when clearly there is. It’s a bit frustrating because, obviously, I would like people to get to me easily. If you have any ideas, I’d love to hear from you, remembering that I’m a bit of a technophobe.

      2. Hi Olivia, I don’t know if you can check, but I just found something in my profile which may have been my ‘link’ problem? I have now “checked” a box, can you see if it’s made a difference? I have no idea if this possible, but I thought I’d ask. I hope you don’t mind?

      3. It’s not made a difference, it’s more than likely a box somewhere that you need to put in your website address. I think it’s under the profile settings on WordPress!

My domain name was diadem of beauty and my whole blog was about beauty, makeup and hair mostly. When I returned after my 4 year break I changed my domain name to what it is now and privated all of my old posts. I started fresh and started creating new content. I created a new logo and header image and started writing about what you can see today! ☺️
I did it because although I am still very much into everything beauty I wanted my content to be inclusive and something everyone could relate to and read. Although I see no issue in having a blog surround one particular topic, you’re really limiting the type of content you can create. Which is why I chose to move on from that style of content.

      1. Thank you … I too started out with a narrowly focused bog about my Triathlon journey then changed it to a general repository for post on topics I want to explore. I think a review of my content is needed and a fresh look at my writing voice would make it more fun especially if I use a conversational voice. I appreciate your advice and look forward to reading more of your work. Thanks Don

I also enjoy writing poetry so I didn’t want to just keep the writing in my notes section of my phone. I wanted to just release it so that others will be blessed and inspired too. I enjoy blogging but it takes consistency and dedication. I enjoy talking to people and also being able to learn from them. Thank you for sharing Olivia 😊

  15. I began blogging when I found myself out of full-time vocational ministry due to the views of some churches that a divorced man can no longer pastor a church. So, I took my message to the blogging world. My writing was a mix of frustration, encouragement, and whatever I was processing in the moment. If anything, I still seek to inspire and encourage while letting others know that an ordained minister struggles just like everyone else.

    1. Thank you for sharing this. I’m sure it was hard feeling rejected by churches, it makes me sad honestly. People seem to hold themselves above Christ and it’s confusing to me. I’m thankful you have found your own platform to share what you want to share about God, you are accepted here!

Plus if my apartment caught on fire then everything I’ve written on paper would be lost and I’d still have some kind of digital evidence of my thoughts and memories to go back to since I don’t have very good memory and I’m expecting it’ll get worse thanx to my traumas that seem to be blocking my ability to remember things well.
