My Top Tips For Self-Care on Bad Days

[AD-GIFTED]

Do you ever just have really awful days and you don’t know how to turn them around? On days like those, I force myself to practice some form of self-care. I say force, because alot of the time I don’t really feel like doing it. Doing these practices might not get rid of my problem, but it sure does make me feel better for it. Self-care is so important for maintaining good mental and physical health. We often forget how important self-care is for our overall wellbeing.

So in todays post I’m sharing things I do when I’m having a bad day, which help me to feel better and turn my day around. I hope you find these helpful, and would love to hear the things you do on self-care days too.

TAKE THE DAY OFF

Whenever I feel like I’m snowed under or I’m having a bad week, I always love to take the day off of work and do nothing. Sometimes the weekends are just not long enough, and don’t give enough time to recoup. Thankfully my job is really flexible so if I wanted to take some time off short notice, they’re okay with it.

Taking the day off consists of going for a walk, relaxing in comfy clothes, watching my favourite tv shows and just generally not doing that much. I say not that much, but days like these are really important for me to maintain good mental and physical health. Working from home 5 days a week is really tiring believe it or not, and days off really help.

SELF PAMPERING

I often forget to do this when I’m feeling sad or having a bad time, because this one requires some effort. Taking some time out for self-pampering is really important. When you feel good on the outside it really helps you to feel good inside too. Self pampering to me is taking a long hot bath, putting on a face mask, painting my nails and making my body sleek and smooth.

Hair care is something that makes me feel so much better. Theres just something so satisfying about being clean and smooth, it really lifts my mood. Estrid is a brand that I discovered recently, and their whole ethos is something I can get behind. It revolves around women empowerment, and a woman’s choice on whether they want to shave or not. They created the company with females in mind, and sought to provide an affordable product that performed just like male razors, but for women. Their razors are amazing and really help to maintain hair care.

Whats even better is that when you purchase your razor and just code ‘SMOOTH’, they donate £1 to the organisation Fawcett Society. Fawcett Society is a UK based organisation that campaigns for gender equality and women’s rights at work, at home and in public life.

GETTING CREATIVE

If you follow me on Instagram then you regularly see the art work and calligraphy that I do. Its a new hobby of mine that I started to get into this year. I draw on an app called pro-create and design interiors of homes. It’s a really fun thing for me to do, and it helps me to relax so much. I can spend hours and hours doing it and feel like 5 minutes has passed.

Getting creative and channeling your energy into production and creating is really good for you and your mental well being. Which is why I love blogging so much. Writing and coming up with ideas is such a relaxing thing for me to do.

What do you do on bad days for self-care? What is your self-care routine?

I’d love to hear your bad day self-care routines. I hope these tips help and are something you’ll try next time you’re not feeling so good. They won’t cure your issues or problems, but they sure will help put you on the right path.

  1. One self care activity I do when I have a bad day is to give myself a break from replying to messages on social media. I feel with the rise of social media and technology there is often that pressure to be available to others 24/7, but sometimes that can be exhausting. Even more so if you have had a really bad day!

  2. I really needed this✨You are right it’s not easy to practice self care when you are not feeling great.
I do like the idea of not doing anything at all. Just relaxing in my comfy clothes while binge-watching the crown. Xx

  4. Great post Olivia, with great tips too. One thing i like to do is to completely switch off from social media and take a break from certain apps. I’ve learnt that sometimes consuming so much information and being accessible can cause stress. I also like walks and I’m a sucker for a good documentary to relax

    1. I’ve had that experience before too. Social media can become so overwhelming that I have to take a break. Sometimes I come to my blogging platform in order to get a break from other social media’s because I find its alot calmer and more positive here!

  5. It’s so typical, I suppose, but I grab a book and go take a bath. It honestly doesn’t even have to be a bubble bath, though bubbles are fun. I just need the water and book therapy.
