How Blogging Saved Me

Blogging saved me, in so many ways. You can probably relate to what I’m about to write as I know alot of other bloggers feel the same. It gave me a sense of purpose and provided me with a life long hobby. It has connected me with new amazing people that I never would have met. It’s given me countless opportunities to spread love and good into this dark world. I am so thankful for that.

As bloggers we put our heart and soul into our websites. Our posts are probably 20% of the work that you see. You don’t see the late night writing posts or the long chore of choosing images for our websites. You don’t see the time, effort and costs that goes into running a blog, running social media pages and our day jobs. Its alot, but I wouldn’t change it. I love what I do, and its helped me in so many ways over the last months.

I HAVE A PURPOSE

Running a blog has really given me a purpose in life which one main reason how blogging saved me. I know there are other people counting on me for support and advice. I know there are a group of wonderful people on the other side of my computer screen eagerly awaiting what advice I share. That alone gives me purpose. I wake up everyday knowing I have things to do with my blog and people I need to get back to. Its filled up alot of quiet time that I had before with purposeful work instead.

It’s an amazing feeling knowing that you’re helping other people. Even if I have helped just one person thats a win for me. It was never about numbers, and it still isn’t. It’s more than that. Impacting one life and one soul is a big achievement.

IT’S GIVEN ME A FOCUS

If you don’t know my blog journey by now, I re-started this blog after taking 4 YEARS off from blogging. I completely re-branded into olivialucieblake.com from a beauty blog. So, I decided to give this space a new focus and knew I wanted to reach more people than just those interested in beauty. I re-started right in the middle of summer and in the middle of the pandemic. I know alot of people can relate to this, that during those first lockdowns we had no idea this would be going on for so I made sure I to start new hobbies that I could continue. And here we are nearly a year later!

Back then I knew I needed a new focus, something to spend my time doing that was productive. And thats one main reason how blogging saved me.

Little did I know that blogging would become like a day job for me. The best job I have ever had.

IT HAS PROVIDED OPPORTUNITIES

Wow, where do I even begin. This blog has given me so many opportunities that I’ve lost count. I have the opportunity to build a brand for myself and a little side hustle. It’s allowed me to start working with really well known brands and get PR products (Still so insane to think about!), make money and make life long friends.

Aside from all of that, it’s given me the best opportunity of all. It’s given me the opportunity to connect and form relationships with new people. It’s allowed me to have a small impact in this world. And thats such a big goal and achievement of mine. I want to spread love and positivity into the world, and with my blog I am allowed to do that.

  2. I started blogging as a hobby and where I can share my thoughts with the people around the world. Blogging helped me to improve my writing skills, confidence and interacting with my fellow bloggers who are always supportive. Though I started as a hobby now I spend a lot of time for blogging and its also a place where I spend my time for myself like ME time. I learnt a lot of new things from blogging too.

  4. After a lot of progress in other areas of writing, last year I received rejection after rejection in all of them. It was hard to take. In May I started a blog. Someone invited me to write a guest blog and the amazing reaction to it from people with whom I had no connection helped restore my belief in my writing again. My blog is sporadic, I still haven’t done that many but it has really helped and now I’m starting to see improvements in my other writing again. So I know what you mean, it can be a real benefit and that’s why I’ll carry on with it, and look in respect at someone like yourself who somehow manages to get more out in a week than I’ve done in eight months!

    1. Thanks for sharing this Paul. Perhaps those rejections were a blessing in disguise, who knows whether you would have started your blog otherwise?

We are all on our own blogging journeys! I blog alot because I really do love putting out new content! And I guess I have more time on my hands than perhaps others! Which is a blessing!

  5. I started blogging when I was in high school, and had few blogging sites back then. After becoming a mother 1.5 years now, I found there is much more purpose in my life, and much more I can learn and write about by becoming a Mum. I have incorporated my interest in baby, children to real life experiences. And by also currently studying child psychology, childcare and child mindfulness, as well as learning parent effectiveness trainings, I feel my life is so busy but enriched And fulfilled. Blogging has really saved me to share my learnings in life.

  7. Blogging has been a positive outlet for me, as I lost interest creating video content in the beginning of the first lockdown. A different but great way to share information and my views. And also share views with like minded people.

    1. I think the blogging space is one of the most positive in the social media world. I feel liked the drama and toxic nature of social media is not welcome here with its users. And I love that. And thats probably what keeps me coming back more and more to other peoples sites!

  8. This is fab.! For me blogging has definitely given me some opportunities, rather in the great sense of collabs etc, when I’ve been sat in interviews and they ask that question, what do you do in your spare time/hobbies, I can talk about my blog and as I work in PR it’s quite a good thing to say I do on the side. It’s so important to have a creative outlet to spend time doing just for yourself xx

  11. Girl I totally agree! Especially, about the part of making so many amazing friends and meeting amazing people! I think it’s true, before I started a blog I literally thought it was just writing and publishing, but it’s far from it! You have to brainstorm, plan, take photos, edit the photos, run social media! But in the end it’s SO rewarding!! Great post!!! ❤

  14. Wow, Olivia I really enjoyed reading this post. Thank you for all the information. I read your other post on branding they are great too. I also had to figure things out on my own when I first started and I am still learning as I go along. I started using Adobe Softwares and it has helped me create beautiful content for Instagram and influenster products to advertise their beauty products. Reading this post today gave me some ideas where I want to go from here because I would like to turn it into more than just a blog. Thanks!

  15. Blogging or writing for me was an outlet. I’m naturally very reserved and although i started with fashion and fitness and lifestyle posts over time I decided to change the formula and now it’s mostly about personal development and i share a bit about my truths. Blogging and writing gave me a voice, it’s my therapy at times

  17. I believe I read this at the right time and season of my life, I’m really grateful to have come across this Olivia. Your blog is indeed an inspiration and it does help out bloggers like me, it’s hard to find motivation and consistency especially if you have a day job. But reading through this, it made me think about what I want to do for other people through my medium, and that’s such a great thing to start with.

New reader here, I’m excited to learn more from you!

  18. Blogging also gave me a sense of purpose and helped me with my anxiety initially. Since my full-time job is so demanding and always changing, I needed something that I could control and pour my heart into. At first it was such a great thing to focus on, but like everything else, it has its ups and downs. I love blogging and think I will stick with it in the long run, but it will only ever be a bandaid, not a solution.

  22. Yes mam, I also started blogging 3 days ago, So obviously I don’t have followers, likes, comments etc on my recent blogs. But You know what I feel really good when I share or spread my thoughts to others. Even if I have no likes on any of my blog but It pushes me every day that someone will be there who will listen to me at least one day and will surely hit that like button. And I hope someday I will share the same feelings as shared by you in your blog with everyone…
Please if possible teach me how to grow blogs….
Wanted to be your friend some day.

  23. I agree with what you say. Writing is such an expression of oneself. However, I must add that there must be something in you which prompts people to take part in these discussions here. Something one can’t explain.
Once again I respect your honest writing
