4 Things I Do To Unwind After a Hard Day

We have all been there, walking into our houses and wanting to unwind after a hard day. Whether its school, college or work thats stressing you out I know most of us can relate to that end of day feeling. As I get older I have really started to pay attention to how important it is that I care for myself after hard days. And heck, it’s even important to care for ourselves even if it’s been an easier day too. There are so many small things we can do each day to ensure that we are looking after our minds, bodies and souls.

It’s so important to unwind after a hard day. It helps to wash away those negative feelings. It also helps us to wipe the slate clean for the next day too. I really hate taking negative thoughts and energy into a new day. In todays post I will share some of my favourite things to do, to unwind after a hard day.

PRACTICE SELF CARE

Self-care is often talked about in the blogging world. But do we even really know what it is? Self care means different things to different people. For me, self care is prioritising my feelings and caring for myself physically. So it could be taking time away and doing a menial task such as painting my nails or putting on a face mask. Self care to me is doing something that makes me feel good. What does self care look like for you?

Being intentional with your time alone is so important too. It’s showing up for yourself. And honestly, I look forward to the time I get to relax at the end of each day. It keeps me going sometimes.

CATCH UP WITH FRIENDS

Never under estimate the importance of surrounding yourself with good people. Whenever I am going through a hard time or have had a hard day, my friends are always my constant and my back bone. I don’t know what I would do without them sometimes. Having friends who can sympathise and empathise with what you’re dealing with is important. Choose your tribe carefully.

I have a few international friends, so its harder sometimes to make time and spend quality time together when you aren’t in person together. One thing we love doing is FaceTiming and watching shows together. We both turn on the same show at the same time and watch it off FaceTime. It really can bring you close together but its also such a great way to unwind.

TURN OFF MY PHONE

Turning off my phone is one the best ways I have found that I can unwind after a hard day. We spend so many hours a day with our head buried in our devices that we often forget what is around us. Being intentional and turning off electronic devices every evening is important for well being. There is only so much Instagram and Tik Tok to consume in one day.

One thing I love about smart phones is how there are timers you can set on them. You can specifically give yourself a specific amount of time each day on each app. I’d recommend trying that if you feel like you’re a phone addict!

PLAY ONLINE GAMES

When I’m not deep into a Netflix series, you can find me enjoying some of my favourite online games. Sometimes playing online and going back to feeling like a kid is the best thing to do after a long day. It really helps you to forget about everything that has happened during your week. I found this website called Solitare.org and it hosts so many amazing free games for you to play. Not only solitaire based games but other fun games such as hidden object games and Mahjong games which I love!

I had never played solitaire golf before but really got hooked when I found it on their website. Give it a try and let me know what you think of it!

What do you enjoy doing to unwind after a hard day? Do you practice self care or play fun games? Let me know below!

  1. My go to unwind from my 8 to 4 pm job is yoga. I do that every afternoon as soon as I get home. Then I spend time with my partner watching anime. I don’t really play games but my partner dies. I guess it would be nice to find a game we can enjoy together. Thanks for sharing.

    1. I’ve been trying to find a game to play with my partner too!! I’m just so bad at video games and I don’t understand most of them.

Also, I don’t watch too much anime but my partner got me hooked on Demon Slayer and I am literally obsessed. I’m so excited for season 2

      1. I feel you on the games. I especially suck at fighting and racing games, which is the majority of video games it seems.
I love anime. There just something about them. I haven’t watched Demon Slayer yet, though I’ve been hearing it mentioned a lot. I have to check it out.

      2. You should most definitely watch Demon Slayer! When you get to a certain episode you will know that it’s literally the best episode of the entire show. No doubt. I haven’t met anyone that doesn’t like Demon Slayer yet.

      3. Lol, idk. What can I say my hand, eye, foot coordination needs work. I always end up going off the road and crashing into the side of the track.Turning corners are a trial. I guess I need more practice.

      1. Lol, yes. It’s awesome. You should try it. My favourite YouTube yoga teachers are Yoga by Adrienne, Yoga by Kassandra, Yoga with Bird, Sara Beth Yoga or Brett Larkin Yoga. On the FitOn app you can try the ones by Vytas. His Yin Yang one is a mix of power and relaxation moves.

  2. These are great suggestions, i’m trying to limit the time i spend on my phone and I have limits set up but i tend to snooze them, so really i should turn it off from time to time! I also like to read and find having a bath a good way of unwinding

  3. I simply love to sit and watch any of my favorite TV shows or series with interruptions from phone calls. Sipping on some hot tea is also ideal for me after a hard day’s work.

  4. A lot of my unwinding after work/ a rough day is just watching YouTube videos, scrolling Instagram and WordPress reader, and talking to friends and family. Every now and again I give myself a treat too by soaking my feet in a home spa with warm water and applying a face mask or scrub. You’re so right. It’s important to unwind and start each day with a clean slate. Thanks for sharing!

  5. Hi Olivia, thanks for sharing these awesome tips! I turn off my phone and I can say I thank life airplane mode- and one thing that I have made known to my workmates is that I would not accept any calls after 7pm, so when I am home, I can simply relax.
