Benefits I’ve Seen From Using Instagram For Blogging

I know alot of people don’t like Instagram much, and I know why. Just like many other social media platforms, they have changed their algorithm, and it’s made it even harder for creators for their work to be seen. I started my blog instagram page in September, previous to starting it I was using my own personal Instagram. It didn’t take me long to realise this was a bad idea. I think for me it’s important to have some sort of separation from personal and blog, which is the main reason why I started the separate account.

A lot of people don’t realise the work that goes into running a blog full time, there’s so much more to it than just writing and posting content. Theres the interaction side of it, and making sure that you are supporting other people as much as they are supporting you. Theres the upkeep, making sure that all of the links are working on your site, and making sure you are staying ontop of post ideas and emails and sticking to your blogging schedule. I could go on and on.

Since starting my Instagram account I have personally seen many benefits of having the account for my blog, and today I’ll be going through those benefits today.

INCREASED BLOG TRAFFIC

This one is a no brainer, if you promote your blog on multiple social media platforms then of course you will see increased traffic from them. Back in 2015 I just used Facebook to promote my blog page, and now in 2020 I use multiple different platforms (Instagram being one of them) and have noticed such a significant increase in traffic from social media because of this.

Below are my Instagram stats:

This was 2015. Little to no promotion.

This is 2020. Since September of this year with regular posting.

Do you see the difference? The 2020 figure is just from September of this year, and I’m sure as my Instagram page grows and my blog that the figure for this year will continue to increase. This should be proof enough that starting an Instagram page for your blog is a good idea!

I’m showing you this because if it was me & I was reading this post, i’d want to see numbers and proof too!

BETTER NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES

Since starting my account I have been able to speak with so many amazing people through my Instagram account and I have had many opportunities I would never of had if I hadn’t created an account. It has allowed me to connect with not only fellow bloggers but other people too. You have access to such a large amount of people at your finger tips, and that in itself is a great marketing opportunity!

Recently I had the privilege of being involved in The BlogR edit, which is a fortnightly newsletter which features creators and shares bloggers through their community. I would never of had that opportunity if I hadn’t had Instagram.

EASY TO GET INFORMATION TO FOLLOWERS VIA INSTAGRAM

Sometimes sending information out to your followers on Instagram is so much easier than writing a whole post about it on your blog. Something that takes less than 2 minutes to write on your Instagram story is so much time effective than having to sit down and compile a whole blog post to tell your followers something. Its also great if you are stuck on something regarding your blog too. If you ever need help you know you can quickly message someone on Instagram and get the help you need.

I have found that people are more likely to be scrolling through Instagram than they are on your blog. So just for that fact, i’d say Instagram is great for this!

IT’S GREAT IF YOU HAVE YOUR OWN SMALL BUSINESS

Alot of bloggers don’t just blog, alot of the time they have small side businesses too. Social media can be a great way to showcase your work and gather sales. As you know I create and sell custom digital content for businesses and bloggers, and instagram has paid a huge part in that work becoming successful. I have made several sales through Instagram because of the promotions I have done on there. So if you have your own little side hustle or your own business, I’d recommend starting an Instagram page for that.

That being said, if you are interested in purchasing a custom logo or image from me please click here for more info.

What are your thoughts and opinions on Instagram? Do you like/dislike it and why?

I find personally that Instagram is a great tool for me and my blog/business. I really love using it. It can be hard sometimes to keep up with having to post content, but I think there results speak for themselves here. Nothing worth having ever came easy!

    1. So I have 2 separate Instagram pages, one that I use solely for my blog to promote and interact with followers. And then I have my own personal instagram, where I post pictures of me and my family and friends and where I keep up with people I know 🙂

      1. Instagram can be a scary place, but there are measures you can take to keep your own personal site private and thats what I do!

Maybe one day you will be able to join us on there, and we will welcome you with open arms 💛

  2. Instagram seems to really be taking off now! Well, maybe even in the last couple of years. I developed a strategy for posting to IG, Twitter, and Facebook. I mapped it out on a spreadsheet and played with a timing strategy. I agree with you that there’s a lot to it, to improve our numbers, but if we aren’t engaging with our audience, we won’t experience such a dramatic rise. And besides, why do we blog anyway? Not just to collect numbers, but to really CONNECT. ❤️🦋🌀

  3. Loved this post, it’s great to see how using Instagram can really help increase traffic to your blog. I personally don’t have any form of social media – I like blogging, I love seeing other people’s blogs and how down to earth and real people are compared to the world of Instagram. It’s so refreshing to see. Instagram wasn’t for me – I wish it was because I’d love to use if for more blog traffic! I’m also very private in my personal life. None of my friends even know I have a blog haha!

    1. You know, props to you for being away from social media! I think we spend far too long on our phones, so I get why you don’t want to be on there.
I guess everyone is different and we all have different things we want to achieve. You can most certainly still grow your blog without the use of social media, its just down to the own persons decisions!

  5. I’m really not great with Instagram. I try using it to increase my following but I’m not sure I’m doing it right 😂 I would like to try and figure it out though although like you say running a blog is more time consuming than people think xx

  8. Great post! I use Instagram and I’ve been putting more effort into it this year and I’m really enjoying it and I’ve seen a lot of growth. I don’t rely on it for my blog at all – I don’t actually know if I get any traffic from it! But I think it can be a great extension of your blog 🙂

    1. I think with Instagram in particular its best to be patient, well with anything really. You will want to post regularly and interact with other peoples pages. Follow people who have common interests in you too!

  9. Thank you for this. I’m by nature a very private and protective person and have been planning on having a separate Instagram for my blog, so it’s nice to hear from someone who does that.

    1. I didn’t for a while, and just didn’t like the fact that I had personal things on my page that people could see. So decided to change that and it was honestly the best thing I could have done!

  10. I recently started a blog on WordPress but I wasn’t much into Instagram. Then I came up with a idea to post pictures my music cds on Instagram. Suddenly I had a inspiration to share my Instagram posts on my WordPress site. I’m having a ball scheduling my posts on WordPress via links to my Instagram site. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Have a wonderful weekend. 📸💿
