How to Make Your Blog Posts More Relatable

Relatable blog content can be defined as any content that the reader can relate to. Thats what I try to do with my own blogging content. I try to make sure that it’s a real life issue that people are going through, or that it’s something I would like to learn myself if I am providing tips and advice. I think it’s important as a writer to believe in what you are saying. How can I expect my readers to relate to something when I don’t even relate to it myself?

BE VULNERABLE

There of course is a fine line between being vulnerable with your readers and over sharing. Being vulnerable doesn’t necessarily mean sharing your deepest darkest secrets but it could be sharing an experience you have had or a time in your life where things were tough. Those are the things your audience will relate to.

SPEAK FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Have you ever had that moment where you’re reading something and you think “This happened to me too!!” ? Thats what a relatable post can do. It makes the reader feel like they are in your shoes or you are in theirs. Sharing personal things can be scary but I think there’s so much value in sharing. I like to think my blog is an open safe space where people can share their thoughts and opinions without feeling scared or judged. There is always going to be someone out there that wants to hear from you & about something you’ve been through.

SPEAK DIRECTLY WITH YOUR READERS

I don’t know about you, but when I’m reading blogs I really love it when it feels like the writer is speaking directly to me. It allows so much more of a personal connection. Directly speak with your audience, use words such as “you” or “we”.
I like to think that my blogs are just a starting point of a conversation. A moment in time where we can have open and honest conversations about various topics.

FIND OUT WHAT YOUR AUDIENCE LIKES

As you start to blog on a regular basis and have been doing it for a while, you get a feel for what your audience enjoys. I guess its about trial and error and figuring out your blogging style. I like to think of it as, what do I enjoy reading? And whatever it is, I then start to write about it. Different people enjoy different content, so make sure to keep it varied of course.

Do you enjoy content that relates to real life experiences you’ve been through? What are your favourite types of blog posts? Do you have any tips on this subject you could share with us?

Thanks so much for reading! Olivia x

  1. These are some really good tips and one I would give as well when it comes to giving advice on how to make posts more relatable!

The tip about speaking to your readers directly is one that is easy to implement as it only requires small tweaks but so important to do. When you do that then it is so much easier for the reader to engage with your post, and if they remember that you were the writer, they are more likely to read your next posts!

Making posts relatable are so important. When I scroll through on reader, I am more likely to properly read posts where I feel I can relate to it, or I can learn something from! It’s important to ask yourself when writing a post, “If someone else wrote this, would I feel that I could relate to it?”

  2. I totally agree with all of these especially about speaking directly to your reader. I think a lot of people want to connect with others on WordPress and it really draws your reader in if they feel like they are having a conversation with you.

  4. Speaking from personal experience really does magic. First of it’s easy to write the post and it’s so amazing how so many people will relate to that. Because without realising it, similar things happen to us all.

    Thanks for sharing 💚

    1. Its really crazy to think about sometimes. We seem to not have much in common with people, especially from different cultures and backgrounds. But we really do, even if its something small as you said! Thats what I love about the human race, we are all different yet the same!

  5. These were really great pieces of advice. Being vulnerable is an extremely important point. As you said, it is important not to overshare but I also think that being too “far away” or “cold” is bad. Drawing lessons from personal experience & reminding our readers that we are not as “prefect” as we appear is a greta place to start. 🌸

  6. #1- Be vulnerable…yep…yep…yep!!
Works for everything we write. I just had to re-write an essay for a contest because I was terrified to share some stuff in the first draft. I wasn’t vulnerable enough.

Your posts make me smile 😀
    Love the positive vibes here.
