My Guide to Creating a Media Kit for Blogging + Freebie!

If you follow me on my Instagram, you will know I have shared my media kit before. When I asked my followers if they knew what a media kit was, alot of people said no. And when I look back to when I re-started my blog in July, I had no idea either. I remember finding a post about media kits at the time, and found it was so helpful to have a post that broke it down for me and explained in detail what it was.

A media kit is a portfolio type document that represents you and your blog. It’s something you use to sell yourself to brands. It’s important that your media kit is professional and sleek. And It should have all of the relevant information a brand might need to know about your site.

Be sure to keep reading as there is a freebie at the end of this post that I know you will be interested in!

Media kits aren’t just used by bloggers but by other social media influencers too. They can be used for any type of online platform, but their main use is to be shared with brands to encourage them to work with you. They’re a great way to showcase and sort of show off all of the hard work you’ve been putting into your website.

WHAT SHOULD IT INCLUDE?

Media kits should include all of the relevant information that a brand would want to know about you. So you should think about including:

– Your name & contact information (email, socials etc)
– A little information about your and your website (such as the date you started etc)
– Your website/socials stats (such as follower counts, monthly views and visitor numbers)
– Previous brand work (what brands have you worked with in the past?)

There really are no limits or right or wrong at what you should include. If you don’t have any previous brand work you could list, perhaps include some of your own product photos you’ve taken in the past. You can tailor this document to make it more you.

Make sure that the language used in your media kit is clear and concise. Be sure to check it for spelling and grammar mistakes, as this is something that might put off brands if they see small errors like those.

HOW SHOULD IT LOOK?

Media kits should look sleek and professional. I would suggest sticking to the same branding and colour scheme as your website. One thing that makes you stand out from the rest is sticking to one branding image. This helps the brand to know that you are serious about your blog and that you are a professional. Be sure to add your logo on there too!

Here is an example media kit. Not all media kits need to look the same, you can put your own spin on it to make it you. And as I said, it needs to fit you and your brand. Typically media kits are one or two pages. I’d suggest not going over 2, as its most likely the brand wont read that last page. Thats why it’s important that you get all of the relevant information on there. They will only read the parts they want to know about.

      1. My only concern about creating a media kit is that my blog doesn’t have as many views as I’d like for it to have. Is it still worth creating and presenting it to brands? or should I just wait until I build up a bigger following?

      2. Totally your choice! There have been companies who I’ve worked with and they haven’t even asked about my stats or follower numbers! If you want to include it or leave it out, thats totally your choice 🤗

  1. Hi! I’m a fairly new blogger and a journalism student. I started my blog as both a hobby and something to show off the employers. I don’t post as regularly as most bloggers but would you recommend I still make a media kit?

  2. That’s a nice template. The first time a company asked me for a media kit, I had to do a lot of googling and ran straight to Canva in a panic– not because I didn’t know what it was, but because I felt awful being caught off guard when I’d planned to make one for months. Needless to say, it turned out well and I landed the deal but now, I just constantly update mine every few weeks with fresher stats so I always have one on hand. 🙂
