There is this stigma that if you want to get up late and not go out that you are “lazy” or “unmotivated”. I say forget that stigma. I’m here to tell you that it’s okay if you don’t want to do anything some days. I even encourage having days where you don’t do anything. We need to get out of the habit of expecting everybody to always be on, and ready to go at any given time. Life doesn’t work like that. Just because you might want to sleep in all day, or not get changed out of your PJs doesn’t mean you aren’t motivated or have any drive to be successful. Here are some reasons why it’s okay to do nothing sometimes.
IT CAN HELP YOU RE-CHARGE YOUR BATTERIES
Doing nothing can really help you to re-charge your batteries. Taking a few days off or even the morning off of your usual schedule can really make the difference. I like to see myself as a rechargeable battery, if I’m kept on for a long time (working a lot, not taking time to relax) I find that I start to run out of juice and I need to be re-charged. Now I don’t just mean sleep, because that is important too but I mean really taking time away to recoup.
Pre-covid I took holiday off from work every 3 months. I can always feel it when I need time off and I always listen to my brain and body when it tells me to slow down. There comes a point where you just cant keep chugging along like an overworked train. We need to look after ourselves.
YOU DESERVE IT
You can’t keep going and going and going until you burn out. Thats not healthy. Remember you work hard, you deserve to have time off and time to yourself. Theres a fine line between wanting to achieve goals and pushing yourself too hard. I do this, especially with my blog. Some weeks I was posting 7 days a week, and it was consuming me too much. So I decided to change my schedule, because I deserve the weekends off once in a while to enjoy other things.
You deserve to put your feet up and relax at home. You deserve that glass of wine or that chocolate bar. Whatever makes you happy to do it, you deserve it. You don’t want to get to a point where you are overworked and stressed. Take time off.
YOUR MENTAL HEALTH IS IMPORTANT
You know me, always talking about how important mental health is. And it really is. Being on all the time can not only have an affect on you physically but mentally too. Your mental health needs to come before any opinion anybody could ever form about you for taking some time off. You don’t have to justify your actions to anybody, say no to the activity you have been invited to. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do, especially if it had an effect on your mental health.
All of these points can be so beneficial to your overall health. Remember to forget the stigma the world creates about people who want time off. You are entitled to it as much as anybody else. Treat yourself. You deserve it.

My Pleasure Olivia 🤩👏
This is true Olivia. Rest days are vital!
For sure! I couldn’t live without mine!
I was just feeling like that😁😁😁
Absolutely. Doing nothing is not a small task 😅
Right?! It takes up so much energy😉
😻
Doing nothing is your reward for doing something; it’s not time wasted, it’s time earned!
I love that! You’re so right, it is!
ME time is essential, it makes you think and catch up on yourself, your plans, and everything. Your health, everything! Sometimes I just sit by the window and drown in my thoughts. I love this post as always! xx
Yess you are so right! It really is so essential to life isn’t it! Thanks for sharing💛
Love this post! Great advice! Thanks for checking out my blog!
Thank you so much!!
Breaking the monotony of life and giving me time to oneself is really really important, I believe so. I totally agree with your post, Olivia.
I agree!! Its one of the most important things you can do for yourself
Thanks so much for reading☺️
Yeah the most important indeed. Most welcome for penning down such topic.
Wow what a phenomenal post I completely agree!! I give myself hot bubble baths or permission to just relax and watch movies or read my book all day. Great post as always thank you😊💖
I love that you do that, its so important to do it. Even when sometimes we don’t want to. Thanks for reading Tia 💕
I only realised it quite recently and of course I love your blog 💖☺️
ahhhh! this was much needed
Im so glad you enjoyed!!
Taking some time off to do nothing can really do wonders for your mental health. I know when I overwhelm myself I end up getting really anxious and end up feeling really horrible.
It really can! I am the same too, its not a nice feeling is it. I think its crazy how our brains know that we need to take that time for ourselves!
Yeah our brain is just like okay I’m done lol!
I know 🤣
Reblogged this on By the Mighty Mumford and commented:
i DO A LOT OF SLEEPING…AND DO NEED, IN RETIREMENT, MORE TIME TO REST FROM MANY MAJOR EFFORTS (LIKE THE MILE-LONG ROUND TRIP TO DOWNTOWN FOR SUPPLIES
Hi, I am never up before 11 am lol I stay up late as well.
I don’t blame you! Do what’s best for you!
Taking time off at intervals is very necessary. Studying law and blogging gets really overwhelming for me most times and I just need a break from everything. So I just take out a day to sit back and just relax and recharge my battery so I don’t break down.
I think doing that is great 👏🏻 whatever u can do to make urself feel better u should do it!
Thank you
This is so relatable because I always feel guilty having days I don’t do anything. Then I’m so overwhelmed if I’m doing something all the time. I think it is a good reminder to be told that it is healthy to take a break from life! Thank you for sharing ☺️
Thats the main reason why I chose to share this, because of that guilt we often feel from doing nothing, when we should feel guilty at all!
Im so glad it could be a help to you 🤗
Hey Olivia. How are you ? Sorry for reading this post late but I had a few clg assignments to complete so didn’t get the time. Extremely sorry. I absolutely agree with this post. Sometimes you just need to relax and take a little time to enjoy yourself. Well, the best thing I do for relaxation is Binge-watching. It’s my way to go. 😊😉😀🥰
Im good!! How are you?
Thanks so much for reading and sharing your thoughts!!
I am also good!
Anytime dear! 🤗😉🎀
Taking care of yourself is so important. Breaks do not equal unproductivity. It’s actually the opposite.
Agreed! It can make you more productive cant it!
Amazing write! Doing nothing makes me feel guilty but as you said, I guess doing nothing helps in its own way!
For sure, it does! You should never feel guilty for taking a well deserved break!
The best thing about doing nothing for a while is that it refreshes you!
